Dear Pratibha, Shekhar, Sashu and Hemant. Words have been hard to come by and it is hard to express the loss of a dear mother, grandmother, aunt and family friend. Our parents new the Tilaks from way back in Mombasa. When we immigrated to Ottawa we visited the Tilaks in their DonMills condo and shared many memories of back in Mombasa. Before I got married in Ottawa in 1983 I would always talk to Mandatai and she told me to come over and do my wedding shopping in Toronto. I stayed with them and she got Sashu to take me shopping on Gerard street!! She also attended our wedding in Ottawa. We chatted over the years. But most recently over a couple of years we frequently went over and stayed a few days. It was never a dull moment as Mandatai kept us intrigued in her conversations. She was a vibrant, loving and extremely generous person. We had planned to visit her on her Birthday in January but unfortunatley the harsh winter weather conditions from Ottawa to Toronto put our visit on hold. She always asked us on the phone when are you coming next. We will miss her dearly and have good memories.
