Grandpa Harry from my perspective

It’s a Monday afternoon - the school bell rings and it’s time to go home. You have already been in the parking lot for over an hour, making sure you’re first in line to pick us up. You ask Kyle and I where we want to eat (we could never agree on one place) so you take us to two.

It’s a summer day and we are at Boomers. We play mini golf and you win, then we head over to the go cart track. Grandma drives me and you drive Kyle. You and Kyle always won because grandma and I were too busy singing songs.

It’s Fourth of July and the entire Klitzner family has gathered at your house. You grill hot dogs and hamburgers while we plan the order in which the fireworks will be launched. We set off our small fireworks, then we switch the chairs to the other side of the street and wait for the big Mesa Verde fireworks. After each firework you say “did you see that?”

It’s Thanksgiving, you are sitting in your chair at the end of the table with a glass of wine. Your face is red and your smile is contagious.

It’s Christmas morning and the doorbell rings and it’s you and Grandma ready to watch us open presents. Once presents are opened and we eat breakfast, we go to your house and do it all over again.

It’s my birthday, and you have made me a homemade card on your computer and signed it with your perfect cursive.

It’s spring time and you insist on a game of croquet. You set up the best course I have ever seen on your perfectly green grass in the backyard. I completely miss each shot and you hit it perfectly through the loop. You insist I have won at the end of the game, even though I know you did.

These are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. I know you will always be waving at me, just like you did each time our car pulled away from your house. Thank you for showing me what true and unconditional love is.

Love you so much,

Your favorite granddaughter, Kelly.
