My grandmother, Vivian Halliburton, was a pioneer in business and design in Chicago. She owned the first Black-owned business on State Street in Chicago's loop called Halliburton Bridals, creating sought-after fashions for models, socialites and Chicago elite. She was also a journalist and often contributed her writing and opinions on fashion and etiquette in the Chicago Defender newspaper and many others.
