Where to start on Margaret Piper?
My very special mother-in-law
Who I will miss deeply
Such a warm, gentle and generous woman
Accepting of all
At peace in herself
And freed by her kindness
her creative pursuits,
her love of dogs
and her infectious love of a good laugh
I loved Margaret
Not only that she bore the man I love
And raised a family that I call my own
That she loved and welcomed me
And was the most wonderful grandparent to my children
But that she taught me so much
Not just practical things
But about what was important in life
Margaret taught me (and not just me, I’m sure)
by the way she lived.
She never preached or demanded
She told great stories
She loved a joke
And she loved to offer a helping hand
I will miss Margaret
I’ll miss her listening ear
Her open house and heart
Her deep well of motherly knowledge
Her wisdom of when to step in and when not
Her memory for funny times
And her presence
Her presence is what I will miss most of all
Lord Father,
Thank you for taking her quickly
I don’t blame you for whisking her away so quietly
May you enjoy her in heaven as we have enjoyed her in life
When the sadness of missing her passes
Please help us to celebrate her life
And indeed life itself - which she was always so grateful for.
