Adrienne Bassick Rosenthal, 78, passed away on September 23, 2020 at her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by her three daughters.
Adrienne, known also as Candy, was born and raised in Fairfield, CT. She attended boarding school at the Grier School in central Pennsylvania, and Pembroke College where she met and married Anthony Rosenthal. While caring for two small children, she earned her bachelor's degree from the University of California, San Diego. The couple ultimately settled in Pacific Palisades, California, where they raised their three daughters.
Adrienne was a talented writer and artist who contributed to the Los Angeles art scene in numerous ways. She wrote regularly as a critic for Artweek and co-founded Arts in Action, an annual art fair held at Pacific Palisades Park. She created many works of line drawing and watercolor and, later in life, became an interior designer.
She was also an avid hiker and founding member of the Machas, a group of Palisadian women who describe themselves as "an eating group with a hiking disorder," that became a decades-long source of support and fun with countless backpacking adventures, trips and gatherings.
Her partner for the second half was Robert Grossman, who shared Adrienne’s love of fine food, art, and design. Adrienne and Bob merged their families of adult children for many happy years celebrating holidays and milestones.
Adrienne’s greatest gift was her ability to cultivate and maintain lifelong friendships from the Machas to her classmates from the Grier School to her fellow writers in a weekly writing class she participated in for decades.
Adrienne is survived by her three daughters, Jill Rosenthal, Holly Workman, and Melissa Patrick, and five grandchildren, Katrina Eroen, Shelby Eroen, Griffin Patrick, Liam Workman, and Esayas Patrick. She is also survived by three brothers, Marsh, Barret and Rob Bassick, and one sister, Ellie Bassick-Trovato.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Preuss School UCSD.
