Collecting your stories and memories here will offer us great comfort. Although Amy passed away on April 6, at the beginning of the quarantines for COVid19, we delayed having her memorial in the hopes that we would be able to gather together in person to honor her. We finally realized that many of us are still unable to gather in person and so we decided to have an online Celebration of Life for Amy at GatheringUs.com scheduled for Sunday 9/27/20 at 1:30 PM (EDT). Sunday, September 27, would have been Amy's 95th birthday. Many of us gathered five years ago to help her celebrate her 90th birthday and we hope that many of you will gather with us this day to celebrate her life.
Amy E. Bitting
Amy E. Bitting of Kenvil, New Jersey died peacefully at home on Monday, April 6, 2020. She was 94 years old.
Born in Emporium, PA, Amy was the youngest daughter of the late Charles D. Bitting and Kathryn (nee Hertig) Bitting. As a young child, she moved to Kenvil with her family and made it her home for most of her life. She was a self-described tomboy who loved to do what the boys were doing. She was fearless and wasn’t afraid to accept a dare. She endured many eye operations during her childhood and those experiences caused her choose nursing as her career. She graduated from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing and later worked in a large New York City hospital. Eventually she returned home to Kenvil and lived with her parents, caring for them in their home to the end of their lives. During this time she worked as a registered nurse for the Westinghouse Company in Randolph, NJ until she retired.
Amy loved people and loved to laugh and enjoy a good party with her many friends and family. Amy was active all her life. She met the love of her life, Stephen Moriak, when she joined a ski club. They loved to ski and many of their vacations were skiing all over the country. Amy continued to ski until she turned 80 and stopped then only because Steve worried too much for her safety. They also played golf and would take annual trips to Myrtle Beach, SC (several time during hurricane season). She continued to golf into her 80’s. She took up line dancing and participated in many of their activities.
Amy was preceded in death by Stephen Moriak, her sister Phyllis Bitting Burgy and her brother William J. Bitting. She is the loving aunt of Elyse Burgy Moorhead of Lower Gwynedd, PA, William C. Burgy of Annapolis, MD, and Amy Bitting Beilharz of Occidental, CA. She is the dear great-aunt of James Burgy, Kathryn Burgy, Kelly Burgy and Andrew Moorhead. Her dear friends and neighbors, Maggie & Henry Valdes and their two children, Diego & Emily, adopted Amy as their own and looked after her every day with the help of her wonderful caregiver Ladys Rodriguez, allowing her to remain in her family home until the end of her life.
Amy is resting with her family in the family plot at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery. The burial was private. Because she passed away during the COVid19 pandemic, an online celebration of life for Amy was held through GatheringUs.com on what would have been her 95th birthday, September 27, 2020.
