Passed away at his home in Ellicott City, Maryland on Friday, 25 March 2022. Andy, as he was known by family and friends, or Broch, as he was known by childhood friends, was born on August 16, 1936, to William (Bill) and Florence. He is survived by his wife, Joan, three sons, Kirk, Darin, and Justin, daughter, Ashley Considine-Shanahorn, seven grandchildren, and sister, Phyllis.
He joined the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department in 1962 where he served until he joined the Montgomery County Police Department in 1963. Andy spent his career in the Silver Spring District serving in patrol, traffic and is most remembered as the foot patrol officer in the downtown Silver Spring business district where he was respected and loved by the merchants in the community. Andy retired from the police force in 1982. He also worked numerous part-time jobs while a police officer, to include school bus driver in Montgomery County Public Schools, retiring after 15 years. Working until his first stroke, Andy particularly enjoyed his time as a driving instructor, giving him the chance to pursue his love of teaching kids to drive.
In lieu of a funeral service, the family is planning a Celebration of Life to be held in June.
