Up until the end, Bernie would speak with us daily, and spend most of the conversations asking about all of you. There wasn't a phone call or email that did not contain a series of questions about how EVERYONE was doing and he loved hearing stories of our interactions with you and especially all your children. We remember all the laughs, love, and sometimes intensity that Bernie brought into our lives. He was a talented writer, music and sports enthusiast, and extremely generous in more ways than one. He taught us the true meaning of family, integrity, and hard work. Bernie loved telling a good story, discovering new musical talent, and making people laugh. He also loved a good quote, but it is only fitting that we leave you with one of his that I found hand-written, on a single sheet of paper going through his papers:
"Love Lives On Long After Life Is Over"
and his favorite thing to say to all of us:
"All My love, All My Life"
Please feel free to leave a message, quote, good story, or even a picture or video you may have. We have also set up a link for donations in lieu of flowers to the John Theissen Children's Foundation. This is a charity near and dear to our family and especially one that Bernie took a great interest in. We thank you all for reaching out to us and hope this helps us all remember what Bernie brought to our lives. Love you all, Christopher and Jonathan

He was a wonderful and brilliant human being who loves his family very much. He talks about his 3 grandchildren all the time. He adores his 2 sons always saying how lucky he is to have them. He loves his syblingand their family always remember everyone birthdays.
He love to talk about his younger day and the place he grew up.
Most of all we talked about food all the time. He thought me so much about Italian food... I’ve become a pro in making Italian food. He love his food and sweets. Pastries and ice cream was his favorite.
He was funny as hell. He yawns so loud I can hear him from a distance.
He love to listen to his music and write his poetry. Every morning he would listen to his music nodding his head and tapping his feet on the floor.
He always considered me as family and would mention Gina to everyone. He was a part of my family as well.
My heartfelt condolences to all his family. May he Rest In Peace. less

Thank you so much Gina for your kind words. You did so much for Bernie and truly took care of him and we are all forever grateful. He loved you dearly and you we will never forget all that you meant to him and all of us.

I seem to remember that he was always shooting movies with lights that were blinding! In one, he faked feeding a baby (don't know who - sorry!) a beer from a bottle, making everyone laugh. He called me a week or so before he passed away and was so funny, making it sound like we were co-conspirators in a joke. Still goofy as ever. Attached are some pictures my mother kept.
All my love to you all - I'm so sorry for your loss. less

Love that pic of you behind the camera, Bernie. Pretty handsome guy...with a cool 70's mustache. You wore it well, especially when you cleaned the Woodstock mud off it!

I’ll always remember “the llama” because it was his signature “made you laugh” move. But my fondest memory of Bernie was as a grownup when he and I went and saw an outdoor Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Colorado, and he taught me how cool Lynyrd Skynyrd actually was. Thank you for all of the laughs, smiles and rock n roll education you provided over the years, Bernie.

Bernie was my birthday buddy, and I felt so lucky to share that with him. I think, in all our years of October 18ths, I placed the first birthday call exactly once. Hard to beat someone to a first call when they wake up at 3:30am!
I remember at one of our early reunions Uncle John asking a group of us, "Who's your favorite uncle?" then quickly adding, "And it can't be Bernie!"
When I was in college, Bernie and Phyllis took me to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. We watched from an unfinished office space, many stories up, and right at the level of the floats. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.
On that same trip, Bernie took me on a walking tour of New York, and I'll never forget turning the corner onto Sniffen Court, one of his favorites and a beautiful look into the past.
Lastly, one of my favorite memories is from Manhattan Beach, when he and our dad found a shady spot in the driveway and sat in beach chairs, playing gin. Card game banter was so much fun to listen to -- "I got a hand like a foot" and "Take another one you don't like!". A great example of siblings just enjoying being together.
Luckily, Chris and Jon carry on the love of fun and family and continue to make me laugh with their very dry senses of humor. 💙 Love to you both. less
