Carol L Cook Palace, age 68 of Largo, Maryland, fondly known as “Cooky,” has gone with her loving Lord on Monday, November 19, 2018, from home after a long battle with ailments. She was born October 16, 1950, in Santa Monica, California to both belated Theodore H. Cook and his wife, Susan Lane Hale.
Carol unexpectedly passed away 12:15 p.m. at her Largo residence of an apparent cardiac arrest. Robert Joseph Palace, her husband, married 33 years, was with her at the time of death. Years ago, she had experienced happy moments of pregnancy which had turned to sorrow and deep heartfelt loss of her newborn daughter, Nara, due to labor complication. The cremated ashes will be poured into the Occoquan River where the ashes of her deceased infant were scattered.
Cooky graduated in 1969 from California School for the Deaf – Riverside. She went on to attend classes at Gallaudet University, continued as a student-athlete, and received a BA degree in Art in 1974. She was retired after 36 years of US Postal Service as a mail clerk. Her highlight was being a doting godmother of three beautiful children, Ross, Kathy and Brooke. Besides, Cooky was known as a cat aficionado adopting many homeless felines. Her various cats always alerted her and greeted visitors at the door. One time she owned and nurtured a pet horse! She enjoyed outdoor adventures, reading the Bible and Civil War history. She was involved in Class Reunion Planning Committee as Art and Design Consultant.
Gene and Beverly Williams, who was Cooky’s close classmate and cat lover, explained that “Cooky was a wonderful, loving Christian lady. When she was young, she received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior by faith through God’s amazing grace. Hunger and thirst for the Word of God, she has been asking us for clarifications of some challenging Scriptures. Also, she has a compassionate and willing heart to run errands for the Deaf elders, rescue and care for the strayed cats.”
Shara Campbell and Kathleen Seymour stated, “Cooky
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. I Thessalonians 4:13-14.
A service for Celebration of Cooky’s life was held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday December29, 2018, at the Open Bible Deaf Church, 4720 Cherokee Street, College Park, Maryland, with Jim Bishop and Bill Tipton officiating. In loving memory of Cooky, anyone familiar with her knew she loved working with indigents and caring for her cats. We gathered to honor her life where she contributed so many years. She survived by Robert J. Palace, her husband, and twelve domestic cats. Carol Moore, Vicki Lowen, Kathy Seymour and Shara Campbell arranged the photos poster and the repast for about 45 participants. Carol Tipton delivered as sign-to-voice ASL interpreter.
