Catherine (Cathie) Marie Hogan, 76, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 23, 2021. In the end she was surrounded by her three sons.
Cathie was born on June 10, 1945 in Olney, Illinois, to the late David and Nancy (Wells) Hogan. She was raised in Lawrenceville, Illinois and later attended Indiana University. After two years, she put her studies on hold to marry and start a family. Not long after, she returned to school and finished her nursing degree at Murray State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. After practicing in a few different areas of nursing, she found her passion in psychiatry. She eventually found herself at Jefferson Community College (JCC) where she taught psychiatry in the School of Nursing for 40 years, retiring in 2017 as a full professor. Early in her career, while working at JCC, she completed a master's degree in nursing from the University of Kentucky. In addition to her teaching position at JCC, she worked as a psychiatric nurse in several hospitals throughout Louisville. Her passion for learning led her to one final degree, Nurse Practitioner, which she achieved in the last years of her career.
Cathie was a generous, fun-loving, and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She had an easy way about her, had a great sense of humor, and was able to take life's difficult moments in stride. She enjoyed reading, gardening, exercising at the YMCA, going to movies, and attending events at the Ky Center for the Arts. She was an animal advocate and a devout vegetarian. She was a practicing Catholic and regularly attended mass. But mostly, she loved being with her family and friends.
Cathie is survived by her sons Blake (Brook McConnell), Chad, and Joshua Hillenbrand, grandson Linus Hillenbrand, siblings David and Andrew Hogan, and several nieces and nephews.
Per Cathie's wishes cremation was chosen and a service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 in Louisville, Ky. Exact time and location will be provided closer to the date.
