Charles Frederick Burger, 84, of West Bloomfield, MI passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2021, with his family by his side.
Charles “Chuck” was born November 15, 1936 to Carl and Fae Burger in Detroit, MI. He was the oldest of two children, and preceded in death by his brother James (Jimmy) Burger. After graduating from Denby High School, and he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, and a law degree from the University of Detroit.
Adored husband of Suzanne Burger, beloved father to Laura (Michael), Michael, and Christopher (Liz), and cherished grandfather to Jacob, Lewis, Alexandra, and Holden.
In 1973, he wed Suzanne (Shirk) and traveled the world playing bridge while maintaining a law practice in Detroit. They enjoyed spending time together in Northern Michigan, with a shared love of nature.
He lived his life with integrity, courage and joy. He loved his family, his garden, and the game of bridge. His ability to find humor in any situation was a gift, and everyone who knew him loved his sparkle and wit.
Chuck was an 11-time national bridge champion and elected to the bridge hall of fame in 2020 (Von Zedtwitz Award recipient).
Some of his fondest memories include working at the C.F. Burger Creamery, time at the cabin, summers in the pool, gardening, sports, and most of all, his family.
One of his favorite quotes was "Love is the answer, what is the question?". It is fitting reminder of a life well lived by a true gentleman.
