He said " No matter what your ethnicity or cultural background is, You are a human being who shares our planet with other human beings whose needs are not so very different from your own". Daniel was called a Crusader and Idealist of his time. Daniel always put others needs before his which is a testament to his tender, kind and giving heart. He took pride in bridging gaps with people and believed in the power of unity. His vision was focused on the unseen potential in everyone as it pertained to building Gods' Kingdom. Daniels' unconditional love, wisdom, compassion, strength and Faith will never be forgotten by all who were blessed to know him. The world needs more Daniel Sylverstons and we honor him with this memorial. Thank you and God Bless you all, with Love, The Sylverston Family.

I never really thought or imagined a world without you in it. You had gone through so many different health challenges over the years and always conquered whatever came your way. So when that final call came and dad said that you were gone I was in shock. This was our Dana mama!! At that moment I wanted more time. I thought of the last conversation that I had with you and you said " We need to spend more time together as a family." I know that we aren't able to spend more time together, so I treasure, even more, the memories that we have from the past. I have a childhood filled with memories of our families eating and laughing together. For that, I will always be grateful. Most of all I will always remember your smile and your calming presence that filled the room. Love and miss you

We lived with our grandma and at that time my uncle Daniel lived there too. We called him Dana mama and I when I say his name, that name, it's love and affection I feel. Chonch and I took turns in mixing his "trakasma" which was diluted in equal portions of water; it was my uncle's daily dose of chronic asthma meds, he worked as a "collector" and would drive to townships where he would use a torch to identify debtor's houses, knock on their door and collect money- all this while Chonch and I would sit together in the rear compartment of his green VW Beetle. We had no mom or dad to look to for anything, and our uncles and grandma were our "go to" peeps.
Dana mama was always the gentle but firm uncle, he always always made a plan- he organized my very first set of 195/50/15 tyres, second hand nogal! But I didn't care about the condition after all my uncle said they were fine! He and aunty Millie saw that I had a tailor made suit for my 21st birthday celebration, he told me he wanted to do something that I would remember. And he never expected anything in return. I recall his first w123 and that blue/green colour combo that just popped. And he was jealous af! Absolutely! He had the windows in his Sierra tinted coz he got wind that this guy in Corovoca was checking my pretty aunty Millie out! I think she worked with my mom at that time. And that was when I lived with him in Corovoca during the hectic floods and access to La Mercy was compromised. I traveled from there to UDW coz it was just closer. He was family. Like proper family, gangsta. Where you knew your uncle got your back. I grew up without Louis unna and Noel unna, uncle Pinky, uncle Brian, Mark and other family. Tino unna and Ivan unna too.
When Mona fell pregnant tradition dictated that her dad walk her down the aisle, Dana mama filled that gap and not once did he ever ever raise religious beliefs as a tool to condemn. No religious bs like fast and pray or God gon punish you. This is the man I knew and grew to love and appreciate. Even in 2010 when I lost everything he and aunty Millie came to SA to try and mediate. That's what he did, he kept the peace. I loved this man not because he was family, but because he was genuine, he cared. I no longer know my cousins, I haven't seen Craig or Neil in 25 years, Denae maybe twice (and she will always be my baby sister) but I when I did see my uncle I saw all of my family. He was a good man. Christmas for us was ALL of us together, the 3 brothers, aunty Yanum, aunty Millie and aunty Donnie and my cousins and my mom and dad and my sister and my brother. Even though much has changed, what remains is love and hope that through uncertainty anything is possible. less

He was a man who was of constant prayer and seeking the Lord. All such qualities, which should be in all of God's Children. I always enjoyed seeing godliness, not only in my friends, but seeing it emulated in their whole family. Daniel lived such a legacy. less

My family loved Daniel and his family dearly and the love flowed both ways. I have many memories of Daniel and Millie's love for people and the Lord, but one in particular was life changing for me in my spiritual journey with the Lord. One evening during a time of prayer, I shared how was battling intense spiritual warfare. They didn't hesitate to take time to pray over me and intercede on my behalf. It was that night around 18 years ago that the spiritual attack was uprooted and broke free from my life. This verse comes to mind... "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." May we all be encouraged to love people, to give people room to share their battles without judgement, to take time with people, and to fervently pray for others as Daniel did. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. less

Daniel is up in Heaven now with his Heavenly Father, free of pain and smiling down on us. I pray that the Sylverston Family has peace during this time and remember the strong, living legacy of their husband, brother and father, Daniel. less

I have precious memories of Gonum and my many visits with Dan, Millie and their beautiful family. Dan always had a way of making us feel at home. He was known by many to go the extra mile. My sister Martha and Brother-in-Law Billy will be proud of all that Dan accomplished. He was a wonderful servant of God. May we all be comforted until we meet again. With love. Uncle Hyman. less

Uncle Dan was a pioneer of his generation. He was the forerunner that paved the way for many people in both the corporate and spiritual sector. He was a highly favored man. He had access to dimensions of God like no other. His understanding of the bible and spiritual matters are a testament to his disciplined life style of Word, Worship & Prayer. He lived a sacrificial life in service to the Kingdom of Yahweh.
We have fond memories of Uncle Daniel pre 1994 whilst still living in the Republic of South Africa.
Despite the dark economic & political climate of the era called apartheid, Daniel excelled in the corporate world.
He excelled financially and spiritually, His maturity, wisdom, discernment, perspective and patience became his biggest advocates.
His success was highlighted & everybody knew that his contribution made the difference yet he often stay clear of the lime light. Uncle Dan was greater than a manager, he was a Leader of leaders and hence he received a higher calling of service in ministry. Uncle Dan continually emptied himself of everything that he had and God continually replenished him with grace upon grace. He became a mentor to many, a father to many and a leader to many. He hid the battle scars of ministry well as he traded his disappointments and hurts for the joy of servicing the Lord. If you heard Daniel Sylverston complain then you must have been closer than a brother to him.
