David Richard Calhoun, 61, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on October 22, 2021. He is survived by two daughters, Annie (24) and Grace (23), many friends in Rehoboth and across the country, and three siblings Megan Nixon, Tim Calhoun and Tony Calhoun. He was born in Carbondale, Illinois on September 19,1960, to Harold and Jo Anne Calhoun. After the return of prostate cancer, David was able to have his last six months in Rehoboth to enjoy summer and the beach.

David was known throughout the community as a thoughtful friend and was genuinely happy to be involved in all aspects of life in Rehoboth Beach. He loved dinners with friends and family, traveling, great hotels, good food, white wine, cooking, farmers markets, art, glass and salt & pepper shakers, going to the beach, and cycling the path in Henlopen State park. He spoke of his daughters with pride and joy, and had a moon with stars tattoo to represent them.

Having grown up in the Midwest, David enjoyed his adult life on the East Coast. He called Boston, Edgartown, New York, Baltimore, Rock Hall, Deep Creek and Rehoboth Beach home. After attending the University of Maryland and the Maryland Institute College of Art, David enjoyed a varied professional career. He had been a camp counselor, a chef and caterer, an inn proprietor on Martha’s Vineyard, a ballroom dance instructor, an artist, a teacher, an actor, and a movie producer. David won acclaim for his dancing, and one of his movies debuted at the New York Film Festival.

David believed we are each connected to every person and everything on this Earth. In the end, he said he was given the gift of life and now he had to give it back. Among his final words, “I am now at peace…I take my leave from this rollicking, revolving world - this sun, that moon, and that walk on the beach”. He believed he was a lucky man, and rather than being sad abut having to die, he had decided to be joyful about having had a full life.
