Denisha Victor, born October 13, 1988, was the embodiment of grace, beauty and determination. For Denisha, her family was the bedrock of her life and she often spoke of her family and their unwavering support. It is standing on this foundation of family that Denisha was able to accomplish all that she did. She was a very driven, hardworking young woman and her many successes are testaments to her determination, innovativeness and familial support.
A graduant of St. Joseph High School’s class of 2005, Denisha furthered her academic career by achieving a Diploma in Banking and Finance and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Guyana. In 2014, she obtained her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of the West Indies.
Upon commencing her employment with U.S. Embassy Georgetown in 2010, it was immediately apparent that Denisha would be a valued and integral member of our team. Her innovative ideas and dedication to her duties and responsibilities led to her receiving many awards during her tenure. Her infectious laughter and joy for life helped to maintain camaraderie among her many colleagues.
Denisha was also an active member of the Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central. Under this umbrella she was a part of many philanthropic activities and projects. Most recently she was a part of the team that installed a sanitation station in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market, in an effort to help fight the spread of the covid-19 virus in Guyana. During her tenure with the Rotaract Club of Georgetown, Denisha served as President (2015-2016) and under her guidance the club successfully executed a literacy project among other activities. She was integral in the creation of a novel fundraising event, Wine and Art, which raised funds to assist with community development in Guyana.
On August 20, 2016, Koko, a business committed to promoting and providing products for men and women with natural hair, was born. Through her entrepreneurial endeavours, Denisha provided a platform for other local female entrepreneurs to retail their products. In 2017, Denisha competed in the Scotiabank Vision Achievers live pitch business competition and was awarded first place. She was also the co-founder of CurlFete Guyana, an annual event dedicated to promoting a nurturing environment for women (and men) to embrace their natural tresses, and to provide an opportunity for other entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses.
On her passing on June 27, 2020, Denisha left a void in our lives that could never be replaced. We join with her family, friends and colleagues to mourn the passing of this amazing young woman. May our memories of her live forever in our hearts.
