Derek Gene Thamm was born on October 21, 1969 in Cuero Texas. Many of Derek’s friends and family lovingly called him “Big D” for many reasons - his big bear hugs, his larger than life personality, and a heart as great as Texas. Derek passed away unexpectedly from heart disease on Monday, March 30 in Houston, Texas.
Derek was the first child of Robert Thamm and Linda Kruse Thamm. He spent most of his childhood with family in Arneckeville, Cuero, and Shiner. As a young man, Derek moved to Freer, Texas where he completed high school before attending his dream college. Derek received a Bachelors and Masters degree from Texas A&M University in College Station. Derek’s education and Aggie ring were among his proudest accomplishments.
After leaving College Station, Derek met his wife, D’Layna Hartman Thamm, and they began their life together in Lubbock. Derek and D'Layna settled outside San Antonio in Lytle, Texas. It was in Lytle where Derek’s greatest achievement arrived. In 2006, Morgan Robert Thamm was born. Derek and his family recently moved to Fulshear, Texas.
Derek deeply loved his family and is now watching over Morgan Thamm and D’Layna Thamm, Robert Thamm, Linda Thamm, Cory Thamm and Kimberly Thom.
