OBITUARY
On Sunday March 17 2019 unexpectedly and suddenly Donna passed away. Her family, friends and employees are missing her greatly. This is a place where you can share your stories about Donna, your experiences with her, your pictures and/or videos. A place to commemorate and celebrate the bright spirit that she always was and still is.
Donna was a dear sweet friend I met in college. We had lots of fun in and out of college. She was a blast to go out dancing with, gave compliments freely and gave of her time and help.
I will miss her dearly.

I just called to leave a message about making an appointment for my dog Ella and got a message about a non working number. There is no one that can replace Donna. She was the only person that I felt like I could trust with my dogs. When I first met her in 2004, I said something like how Rosy doesn’t have a vet because I don’t like them. And she responded “I don’t blame you.” I knew right then that this was going to be a great relationship. Our physical world lost some magic with her passing. less

Donna and I met maybe 20 years ago with IAATH - an association of alternative healers and therapists for animals, which sought cred with the DVM community. We worked very hard together and became friends. Over the years we shared cases and stories and healing work. The most recent time she called was about her new horse, and her challenges with staying on the topside of this frisky friend. Horses and life. I appreciate all the of hours of sharing we had on energetic healing philosophy, on the determination to stand true to yourself regardless, and the deep appreciation and esteem we mirrored to each other. Donna sought oneness with grace, may she shine her blessings on us all. less

We met at a healing event and had that immediate connection as will happen with special people we meet in life. I found her to be a very dedicated, tireless and devoted healing practitioner whose heart was always open to others. She constantly reached out to people offering her skills and wisdom. She was both vulnerable and strong, tough at times when needed. She was a pioneer in her own right, someone who was willing to stand up against the ‘status quo’ to effect change. She had a great gift in working with both people and animals, a very loving and compassionate healer. Truly, her healing tool box vastly overflowed as she affected people’s lives.
She and I had an ongoing ‘working’ relationship, trading services, and she was so open to embracing the ‘deep’ internal work of spiritual growth that is so demanding and rewarding. She demanded much of herself in maintaining the highest standards in her healing practice and being available to her friends and family. She gave much and that was a most endearing quality that made her the special, loving being I’ve known her to be. I already miss our precious time we had shared together, the sharing of laughter as well as the pain of just being human. I am forever grateful for her sweet spirit and unending generosity…And now she’s off on a new adventure….blessings to all

I learned so much from her that still is an important part of my healing/health philosophy and beliefs. I consulted with her many times by phone over the years for healing for my animals and myself and treasure the wisdom she shared at Dynamite conferences and workshops. I recall her stating during one phone consult that "our animals leave us when their work is done." That wisdom came to mind several times over the years when a treasured animal passed on. . .one in particular who helped me get through a particularly painful transition in my life in Spokane. I saved this abandoned dog who came to my door very pregnant during bitter cold weather. She became part of my family as did two of her pups. As I was working through the healing after the painful transition--she was my constant companion--she suddenly became paralyzed--attempts at treatment did not work, and we put her down. . .she didn't want to leave me even after being given the euthanizing drugs. I told her that I would be ok, and then she left. I recalled Donna's words that our pets leave when their job is done. I knew then that I had to return to starting a new life . . .the first walks without her were painful. . .I felt as though I had lost my left arm. . .I cried when I saw other people walking their dogs. She will forever live on in my heart! 💕 less

Over twenty years ago, I chanced upon a naturopathic vet named Donna Mehan. I wanted to care for my kitty Lia in a more natural and wholistic way. Donna gave us immeasurable help, care and support for Lia, Koko and our now 18 ½ year old Reggie. She helped ease my often worried heart many, many times.
We worked with Donna almost entirely over the phone. In a recent call, she was into jokes. I offer one of hers to help lighten our hearts. Can you hear her telling it?
What’s the alternate meaning of “flatulence?”
It’s the emergency vehicle that takes you to the hospital after you’ve been run over by a steamroller!
She was an amazing friend to and advocate for compassionate and non-invasive care for all beings. I have the sense that she’s still doing this. Perhaps we just need to trust and LISTEN.
May you be peaceful and have loads of fun, Donna. Thank you for helping us through so much. May your daughters, grandchildren, and all your friends and family and animal clients be peaceful.

Donna was amazing I feel her presence in my house in New Jersey. And I miss her more than anyone else I have lost.We did meet once for coffee at the Verona Diner one New Year's Eve and talked for hours. She cared for my many cats with such love and me, too. I want to tell you an incident that is some what funny. I had five 1 and 1/2 inch feed gold fish rescued by my daughter from biology experiments. 15 years later a 6 inch silver, no longer orange and the only one left; an unnamed "dummy " jumped out of the tank and providence was with him because I was on the phone with Donna at the time. A couple of cats licked, didn't bite him before I scooped him up and put him back. Donna said to sprinkle some Arnica in his water and he lived 5 years longer. Too big to flush so I buried him, not deep enough and he sailed away in a bird's mouth! I am sure Donn's spirit did the same. less

The first time I remember calling Donna was when my husband’s dog was stung by a wasp and having seizures and his nose was swelling by the sting. In less than 5 minutes he stopped and the swelling went down! Donna said she had transmitted a Vitamin B shot! We were amazed!
I sent her many clients and one of the first had a puppy whose vet said he needed surgery to remove a blockage. Donna saw it was fecal matter, gave her a remedy and no surgery was needed! She helped over a dozen of our animals and myself and my husband as well.
She spent almost 2 hours cleaning and pulling teeth from my mother in law’s 18 year old cat talking to her all the time, apologizing she was taking so long and so on.
End of life was special with Donna. She had Sage, incense, candles, music, whatever you needed. Inside or outside on the lawn. I never met a more caring vet.
She was unique, original and never afraid to try new things never done before, despite all the challenges by regular vets to stop her practice. She loved animals and her family as well. She was an inspiring role model of the possible future of veterinary medicine I hope to find soon. She will be missed more than words can express. I send infinite love to her family who I know will miss her presence in their lives too. I thank you Donna for sharing your Loving, Caring, Creative, Magical Presence with the world. Love always, Morgine less

Somehow I could always feel her energy in my corner, even after long periods of not connecting with her. She helped my cat, Poofy. She helped me. I attended one of her classes and learned so much. Poofy is still with me and now that I have moved far away, I wonder who will help me look after her. Condolences to her family. And I am certain there are many animals out there mourning her loss. I can still see the golden light that surrounded her being. So I suspect that energy is still out there in perhaps a more powerful form. less

Jack, my recently purchased TB gelding had received the West Nile vaccine in two shots after which he became gravely ill. I had no idea what was wrong but Jack was rapidly losing weight and energy. Dr. Donna was amazing as she saved him three times, being on the phone with me each time, helping me to help him. It was a very long healing journey, and he continued to have repercussions from the West Nile virus, but he is still with me at age 27. In fact, we were scheduled to have a follow-up just before I received the news that Dr. Donna had transitioned to spirit.
For over twenty years, Dr. Donna had been indispensable to me. She had helped not only all my animals (three cats, one dog, and two horses), but also me and my sister. She was instrumental in getting my sister into remission from Acute Myleoid Leukemia. My sister enjoyed over a year of healthy remission before developing another, more aggressive form of leukemia in which she decided to pursue a conventional treatment plan and sadly passed away from graft versus host disease four years ago.
Dr. Donna had so many tools in her toolbox and knew so much about seemingly everything, yet was continually open to new ideas and possibilities. Just recently during a consultation for Jack regarding low energy and vitality, she wasn’t sure what it could be, so she researched the issue, then called me back saying that it could be a vitamin D3 deficiency and that she would transmit it to see if it would make a difference for him. Sadly, I did not have an opportunity to tell her that it did.
Through the years, Dr. Donna had guided me through several animals’ passing to spirit, assisting me in honoring them and their desires for a peaceful transition as well as comforting me in the process and enlightening me in the ways of Spirit. I will be forever grateful to have known and loved Dr. Donna, to have been healed and guided to heal by her, and to have been inspired to raise my vibration and to live a divine life. My only regret is to never have had the opportunity to meet her in person, to give her the biggest and longest hug in gratitude.

Donna became the #1 in Charlies life, healed his belly, so he could live a happy healthy-life.
Dr Donna was always so loving, kind, clear & always accurate in her impressions. She saved my life a number of times & even took the time to send me a beautiful card when my Mother passed. Her loving care will always be remembered.
Dr Donna lived on an incredible beam of light & I just know she is still sending us all healing light & energy at an even higher frequency. HerGenerous Spirit lives on💫
We are so blessed to be the receivers of her Great Love.💞

I first saw her at her lecture at the Clark County Horse symposium at least 20 years ago. It was then I learned about the "truth about vaccines". She helped me with 3 of my dogs and what she told me when we got our last Golden Retriever (in 2000 and lived to be almost 15) will forever be embedded in my mind. She said, "you did something right to have this dog come to you". Well that dog was a Golden Buddha who touched and brought joy anyone she met. I loved what someone said when they said she would be working on the "other side". Yes, that gives some comfort. less

I trusted Donna more than any other doctor I'd worked with over the years. She literally saved my animals lives on many occasions through her unique set of skills. She also saved mine. I have so many stories to share I'd have to write a book! I also loved this wonderful person for her sense of humor, generosity, depth of spiritual understanding, and her fearless way of speaking truth. I felt privileged to be her friend. Like all her clients, family, friends, I was shocked and devastated to hear of her passing. All I can do now is send her love, love, love and wish her the highest and best as she navigates her new surroundings in heaven. Thank you Donna for sharing your gifts, being there for us when we desperately needed you, and being an angel of light on earth. I miss you and will never forget your kindness. You are so loved! ❤☮ God bless your beloved family. less

She was a very sweet lady and I loved her very much. We were also birthday sisters.
She will be greatly missed, but I guess Our Lord needed her more.

I know she is in a wonderful place continuing the light she so generously carried while here with us. I've been working with Donna since 1996 and she has consistently amazed me with her loving insights, profound knowledge and resourceful solutions together with caring zeal and personal need to find answers (even if they were difficult to accept). She was my 'go to' angel when I'd exhausted all I knew. She always had that extra mile for direction and understanding to help me and all my animals. I loved her with all my heart and miss her deeply. Gratitude and great love to Lucia and Donna's faithful loyal staff that were always there to support my needs and to date are there to hold Donna's last 'value added' service for all of us that loved and cherished her so much. I am grateful and feel so blessed to have known known her. In love and light, God Bless Donna, until we meet again. less

Donna Starita, the “Steve Jobs, Nikola Tesla, Leonardo da Vinci, Florence Nightingale” of veterinary medicine. On the Leading Edge of a new kind of veterinary medicine, where we give less medicine, more Love, more Compassion, and more natural, holistic care of all kind to our animal friends… and ourselves as well.
I first met Donna when she was putting her then husband, through Naturopathic school and eventually they worked together, sort of, one with animals and one with people. It was incredibly difficult to see her have to go through the court with him divorcing her, and then paying him alimony. It was difficult watching her Incredible Work be challenged by the standard veterinary associations again and again. I am looking forward to the day when Donna’s Life Work… will be seen as a Shining Role Model for things to come in the future of Healing for Animals & Humans.
