Dr. M. Saeed Koolaee passed away peacefully and comfortably at his home in Maryland on Sunday, December 27th, 2020, after a 16 month battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Saeed managed his illness with strength and grace. When he was diagnosed, he told us he had no “bucket list” because he had accomplished everything he wanted to in his life; his only wish was to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his wife and children, whom he adored more than anything else in the world.
Saeed was born on January 4th, 1956 in Tehran, Iran. He obtained his medical doctorate degree from Tehran University. His residency he completed at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and his cardiology fellowship he completed at Case Western University. Saeed’s pride and joy was his cardiology practice located in Greenbelt, Maryland, which he opened up in 2000. He dedicated his life to caring for others, and caring for his patients gave him the greatest satisfaction.
In 1980 he married the love of his life, Dr. Lobat Mohajeri, whom he called “mar mar.” He used this term of endearment for his beloved Lobat, as mar mar is the softest stone, of the best quality and the most expensive. They dated for only 2 weeks before he proposed. He said that when he met her, he knew she was the one and “I had to catch her.”
In addition to Lobat, Saeed is survived by his 3 children, Sima, Arya, and Roodabeh (Michelle), as well as 3 grandchildren, Mina, Aiden, and Sadie. He is also survived by his mother, Zahra Afshar.
He was a role model, a leader, and always humble. He was the family’s North Star, and someone they always looked to for comforting and guidance. His love was unconditional, and his kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He had a love for life; his trademark motto was “Life is Good.” He loved riding motorcycles, and would venture to different parts of the country and world to be able to ride.
