Ella Marteal Booker-Taylor was born on March 31, 1943 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, the second of 7 children born to Metria Eddins-Martin and Uriah Booker, both of whom proceeded her in death. Ella entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.
In 1945, the family moved to Portland, Oregon where she attended elementary and high school.
In 1965, she relocated to Oakland, California where she was married and from this union came twins, Cherry and Carry Simms.
In 1970, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She later received her Evangelist Missionary license from the Churches of God In Christ (COGIC).
In 1980, the family relocated back to Portland, Oregon where she served faithfully in the church.
Missionary Taylor’s church works included:
- Sunshine Band president
- Prayer and Bible president
- Young Women Christian Council (Y.W.C.C.) president
- Christian Women’s Council (C.W.C.) president
- Youth Choir director
- Sunday School teacher
- Prayer Warrior president
Not only did she live a life for Christ, but she also exuded peace. Ella was soft-spoken and matter of fact. She spent her life studying God’s Word and growing in God’s grace.
During her lifetime, she worked as a daycare provider for over 30 years and was a care provider for many.
In 1999, she joined Powerhouse COGIC in Portland, Oregon where she served faithfully. She loved to pray and teach the Word of God. She loved to encourage those who needed encouragement and always kept her hands busy with the Lord’s work by building the kingdom of God.
Ella had 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
Sisters - Vernestine Booker, Betty Booker and Janice Martin (all proceeded her in death), Brenda Martin-Wilson of Buford, Georgia who also proceeded her in death and Mertria Martin-Barber of Portland, Oregon.
Brothers - Frank Booker of Vancouver, Washington; Randy Booker, Calvin Booker and Donald Booker of the state of Louisiana and James Martin of Lansing, Michigan.
In her passing, Ella leaves to mourn, (Husband) Alfred Taylor, who preceded her in death. Her two children, Cherry Simms-Lindsey (Chester Lindsey, Jr.) and Cary Simms.
5 grandchildren, Michael Cage Jr. (Desire Cage), Iyana Simms, Isaiah Simms, Matthew Cage and Mecole Johnson.
11 great-grands, Lilly, Laila, Kingston and Keeair Simms, CamRon and CaNeah Booker, Dayne Allen, MyOntae and Maddison Cage, Maverick and Harlowe Cage. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
