OBITUARY
Mr. Eric Henry Smith, 76, of Roswell, Georgia, formerly of Bronx, New York and the British and U.S. Virgin Islands passed away Friday, December 11, 2020.
Eric was born on January 7, 1944 in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, the son to the late Cecil and Ellen.
Eric attended Samuel Gompers CTE High School in the Bronx and Suffolk Community College. A skilled electrician, Eric was an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1964-1968 during Vietnam. He later went on to work for the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority, where he retired in 1996. He was a very kind, generous, and tender soul. He was always there for anyone in need. Eric was a great family man and provider with an unrelenting work ethic. He always made sure his family was well taken care of.
Eric fell for an amazing woman, Junie, and they have been happily married for almost 3 years. The love they shared created memories that will be remembered and cherished forever.
Eric was a lover of music, listening to the likes of Peter Tosh, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Hall & Oates, and New Edition, whose concert he took his children to experience. Eric was also an avid reader, and he loved to travel and make memories with his loved ones. He was a devoted Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta, where he served in the choir for more than 10 years, and was a regular in his bible study groups. Eric was also a member of support groups that helped him during his battle with cancer. His family and friends will forever remember him for his caring and loving spirit and his wonderful sense of humor. A man whose laughter could fill a room, Eric was such a joy to be around.
Eric was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His life and love for his family will always be cherished in the lives of those who knew him.
Eric Henry Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Glanville Smith and Ellen Rebecca Hyndman-Claxton; step-father, William Henry Claxton; and sister, Berecia Golphin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lucia Junie James-Smith; beautiful daughters: Michelle Dawn-Marie Harris-Farrell and Nicole Lavonne Smith and his loving Son, Michael James Smith; siblings: Glanville Smith, Delton Claxton, Keith Hyndman, Shirley Claxton, Jacqueline Claxton-Leighton, Marva Belle, Linda Bessant, Bonnie Jefferson, and Diane Blank; his cherished grandchildren: Miyah, Jaz, Sasha, Noon, and Karas; and countless relatives and friends.
