Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation’s mission is simple: we inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. This mission is the driving force behind all of our work in community forestry, large-scale forest restoration, rain forest preservation, disaster recovery, and education.
We are proud to be the largest nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to planting trees. The impact we make is possible thanks to more than 1 million members and corporate partners as well as a strong global network of dedicated programmatic partners. less

Erica Rund Bennett of Seattle passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022 in Fairfax, Virginia at age 66.
Erica grew up in Shorewood, enjoying skiing at Crystal Mountain, water-skiing on the Sound. She had a lifelong love of flying. After graduating from the University of Washington she married and headed North to Alaska where she worked as a flight attendant for Western and Wein Airlines. She became a member of the National Ski Patrol at Alyeska and had two daughters who she loved dearly. Later she moved back to the Lower 48 and worked for Horizon Air and Southwest Airlines.
Erica's heart never left the Pacific Northwest. Wherever she went she touched countless lives with her kind, caring nature.
She is survived by brother Gregory Rund, her daughters, Audrey and Kristin, who tended to her in her final battle with cancer, and her five grandchildren. Her parents, John and Shirley Rund and her brother Scott and John Jr. pre-deceased her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arbor Day Foundation.

The attached photo was taken at a BWI Christmas party that we had in January of 2012; I think. We usually ran a little late on those parties so, most years it was Christmas in January! ;)
Lots of fun parties and get-togethers over the years. Camden Yards closing for one of SWA's system wide Spirit Parties was a standout! We had tons of fun there with great live music, good food and lots of old and new friends. So much fun that we didn't want it to end so when it did, we went on to close down a number of other clubs in Baltimore where the music and dancing was also grrreatt and got back to our hotel rooms just before sunrise. There was barely time to shower and pull ourselves together for our morning meeting with our company's president, some VPs and Flight ops leadership. We were almost on time! Don't remember much about the meeting but I remember a magical, musical night with good friends!
Fondest memory is the fall of 2019. I was visiting back east, and Erica was in remission. Arthur and I drove to Virginia to pick up Erica for a celebratory lunch and a drive to see the fall colors on a beautiful Autumn afternoon. Arthur was at the wheel of his BMW convertible, Erica and I were passengers, all of us talking and laughing...the sun shining brightly and wind blowing in our hair (well, Erica's and mine; Arthur keeps his quite short!). It was a beautiful day with beautiful friends...for me, the very best of times!
I'm sorry I won't be able to attend Erica's Memorial. She was a good friend, and I will miss her.
