Frank C. Mason passed away on December 11, 2020, surrounded by his family in his Phoenix home due to complications related to brain tumor. He was 69 years old.
Born on Independence Day, 1951 in Fresno, Calif, Frank's family moved to Phoenix when he was three weeks old. As a life-long Phoenician, Frank graduated from Sunnyslope High School in 1969 and attended Northern Arizona University. He married his best friend Lorie Jackson of Chesterton, Indiana next to Oak Creek in Sedona on October 6, 1973.
A consummate salesman, Frank had jobs in sales with The Arizona Republic newspaper and Crystal Bottled Water. Yet, Frank’s love and his passion was golf and working at the Vans Golf Store the last six years was his favorite job.
Frank was deeply spiritual with a keen need for introspection, Frank and his wife Lorie were members of Self Realization Fellowship Church. He loved practicing yoga, meditating and reading books on spirituality. His kindness and love were felt by family, friends, acquaintances and strangers alike due to his profound spiritual connectivity. His warm hugs and amazing smile will be deeply missed by all.
Family was the focal point of Frank’s life and he greatly enjoyed visiting his sons and extended family on the beaches of California. The Mason Family reunions were a highlight for Frank and were held every other year in Pismo Beach. During his times at the reunion, Frank loved playing golf with his children and cousins, walking along the beach, and judging the homemade ice cream contests while visiting with his extended family.
In addition to spending time with his family and practicing his faith, Frank loved plants. You could always find him outside tending to his garden, watering, or planting new ones.
Sports were also Frank’s passion beginning with coaching his kids baseball and football teams as well as cheering on ASU football and baseball. Frank and Lorie also enjoyed being Diamondback season ticket holders for the past 15 years.
The Mason household was always filled with the sound of music. From The Beatles to the Eagles and everything in between, Frank had a vinyl record of it. He was often quoted as saying that, “This one is one of my favorites” after almost every song.
Frank is survived by his mother Helen Mason of Phoenix, his sisters Dolly Parke of Glendale and Joyce Mason of Phoenix; his loving wife Lorie Mason of Phoenix; his son Josh Mason of Laguna Beach, Calif. and grandson Coy Hopper-Mason of Phoenix; his son Jeremy Mason, his wife Tracy Mason and grandson Warner of Huntington Beach, Calif.; his daughter Merrily Metnick and her husband Jason Metnick and granddaughters Abbie, and Lucy of Phoenix.
One of Frank’s oldest friends said, “To my knowledge, Frank never did anything in his life that he regretted. His integrity was steadfast, rooted deeply in his spiritual foundation. His service to his family and friends was remarkable. He walked the path of service to all.”
