Ian joined UNICEF in August of 2004 on what we call a TA (Temporary Appointment) and later attracted a fixed-term post in 2011. Ian made impressive contributions in the areas of WASH (Water and sanitation hygiene), Climate Change action for Children and Emergency preparedness. Ian travelled across the Caribbean in the strength of a true humanitarian champion to offer Emergency preparedness support. Ian also made a significant contribution to the UNICEF LAC regional migration flow strategy in light of the Venezuelan migrant crisis.
Ian had a fun and humorous side. A few may know that when he was not working and enjoying his family, he enjoyed music and football. We managed to see him in his element during a Karaoke session at one of our Staff Retreats and oh how he enjoyed the singing. Ian has done his part here on Earth and has achieved so much for children. We will continue to cherish the sweet memories of our beloved Ian.

Within seconds of the conversation and without me asking, Ian left his desk to come downstairs to mine. There he sat and willingly answered all my questions. I was so grateful for his help and the genuine way in which it was done. Thank you, Ian. You were an amazing man who played a unique and special role in all of our lives. You will be missed... less

Ian would come into my then office just to sit and chat and i don't know why but i always would call him IAN DAVID JONES when i saw him in passing on the steps or in the kitchen (making coffee). Ian marched to the beat of his own drum never seemed to fit in anyone's mold :), he had a special kind of humor and i remember his rock and roll karaoke at our staff retreat in Suriname it was so great to watch him in that setting. I admired his relationship with Jason-so devoted as a father and they seemed like best friends. Rest in Peace Ian less

I remember being quite nervous because the local aircraft was really small but Ian in true champion style, was a pro. He was relaxed throughout and even fell asleep and that made me feel comfortable.
