Jackie Edward Payne passed away on October 17, 2020, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. His final months were spent with family and friends that he loved reminiscing about special memories over the course of his life.
Jackie was born on December 10, 1946, in Pecos, Texas, to Carlos (Don) and Merle Payne. He grew up in west Texas living in Presidio, Balmorhea and Marfa where he graduated from high school. He then attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine and received a business degree with a focus in finance.
While at Sul Ross, he met and married his first wife, Bette, and they had two children, Jason and Missy (Kara). He held various jobs in west Texas during this time including positions at the Savings and Loan, highway department, and Exxon Chemicals. He also owned gas stations in Pecos and Toyah.
After moving to Mineral Wells, he married his second wife, Gloria, and enjoyed life with their two daughters, Chrissy and Jacquelyn. He finished his career at Napa Auto Parts and retired at the age of 62.
Jackie enjoyed gathering together with his friends and family. Always the life of the party, he had a story for everything. He understood, especially in his later years that time with loved ones was the most important thing in life. He knew he could always make more money, but he could never make more time with those he loved.
Jackie is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Merle Payne and sisters, Connie, Donna Sue, and Patsy. He is survived by his wife Gloria and children Jason, Missy (Kara) and her husband Phillip, Chrissy, and Jacquelyn, grandchildren Taylor, Sara, Seth and Noah, sister Syree, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
In lieu of a traditional service, the family will gather for a private reception to honor his life and remember him.
