Joan remains an inspiration; a positive and upbeat lady with a zest for life. We were lucky enough to be able to share several meals and "libations and conversations", and always enjoyed her company, her views on life and current affairs, and her stories of work and travel. We know she adored her family. We feel somewhat cheated for not having the chance to know her as long as most of the memorial attendees had. Still, it is our good fortune to have encountered her, and our lives are better for the experience. I think everybody's world is a little less bright with Joan's passing, but a person is never really gone as long as you hold on to their memory and it brings you a smile. What a remarkable gift to leave.

She has meant so much to me for many reasons, the most vital being the support and help to our family when I served in Vietnam. Also, when we were stationed in Hawaii, it was like being at home, almost, because all Joan's friends became our friends too. She has been such a big part of our family! less
