Every morning when I reach in the cabinet for a coffee mug, I see a beautiful vase Joan bought me years ago. It was one of those gifts she pretended she just “happened upon”, given for no particular occasion. I knew she had gone out of her way to...  more

I have loved reading the passages about Joan in Trapped Under the Sea. The author does a great job of capturing so many aspects of our beloved Joan's spirit and character.
In addition to the loving, brilliant, insightful and fun person Joan was, I want...  more

It was a great privilege to get to know and work with Joan through her work with the Commonwealth. What made Joan so special, and so effective, in her work on behalf of workers’ health and workplace justice was that the people who needed her most...  more

Joan and I met some time in 2014. I’m not sure of the exact time or the event simply because I cannot remember a time when we haven’t been the best of friends. We LOVED plants and gardens and so she and I, with another Master Gardener, would travel...  more

I was gutted to har of Joan's passing. I was not fortunate enough to know her well but I was fortunate with my wife Helen (their niece) to go and stay with John and Joan back in 2007. They were wonderful hosts and it was during this time I was struck by...  more

I was 15 when I met Joan through her then-husband Reuel, who taught banjo at a local music store. Reuel invited me to attend the Newport Folk Festival with them, and my parents allowed me to go... my first night away from home so a...  more

Joan and I were acquaintances through our volunteer work at the Community Cupboard food pantry. She always joined in with a sprightly attitude. I greatly respected her for developing gardens that provided fresh produce for the pantry clients. Her red...  more

Suzanne Gamache Judy, your sister had a most radiant smile, and I could see that spirit in you too, as you so gracefully and graciously hosted the celebration of Joan's life yesterday. Your loss is palpable, but your courage and determination are just as strong. They...  more
