OBITUARY
Joanne Dorothy Smith, 86, of Olathe, KS passed away peacefully July 10, 2019 in the San Diego, CA home of her daughter surrounded by family. A funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 1:00pm at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos Almaden Road, San Jose, CA 95124. An Open House will be held after the service at 21429 Toll Gate Road, Saratoga, CA 95070.

Joanne was born May, 25, 1933 in Morland, KS to JD Garner and Hazel Funk Schafer. Joanne graduated from Turner High School in1951. She married Leonard Smith on November 11, 1951 at Stoney Point Chapel in Muncie, KS. The couple moved to Wichita, KS where they started a family and lived until 1964. They lived with their family in San Jose, CA from 1964-1978 and Stockton, CA from 1978-1992. Joanne and Leonard then lived in Aurora and Springfield, MO from 1992-2002; San Diego, CA from 2002-2010. Joanne then moved to Olathe, KS in 2010. She returned to San Diego, CA in April 2019 to be with children and grandchildren for the remainder of her life.
Joanne worked as an executive secretary and administrative assistant at Consolidated Gas Utilities, The Pure Oil Company, Winfield Distributors, Inc., Lockeford Clocks, and Woolsey Oil, Inc. Her most important job was mother and homemaker while raising her children.
Joanne was a loving, wife, mother, aunt, sister, and Grammy. She enjoyed knife throwing, being a hair model in her twenties, and caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1960.
Preceded in death by parents JD Garner and Hazel Funk Schafer; husband Leonard C. Smith; son Kelly G. Smith; and sister Barbara K. McClellan.
Survivors include children Teri Wurth of Sacramento, CA, Cara (Steve) Olson of San Diego, CA, and Aimee (Randy) Mossberg of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Samuel Wurth, Matthew Wurth, Danica Smith-Olson, Megan Olson, Zahra Mossberg, and Jaedon Mossberg; sister Georgia Yount of DeSoto, KS; brothers Floyd Garner of Kansas City, KS, and Jack Garner and Rex Garner both of Seymour, MO.
