He is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary; his four children Courtney (Moe), Jake (Sarah), Sarah (Matt), and Steven; his granddaughter, Finley; and brothers Bob (Kim) and Dave (Kim). Though taken from this world much too soon, in his 61 years Joe lived an amazingly-full life, embracing every day for the joy it would bring.
He grew up in Long Beach, California and met his high school sweetheart, Mary, at St. Anthony's. He cherished their community of friends and family in Long Beach. Keeping in touch and visiting most summers meant so very much to him. After moving to Puyallup, Washington Joe enjoyed owning the Propane Connection and being a part of the community, as evidenced by all the car wash fundraisers held there. Belonging to the Holy Disciples family in faith was also important to him. Joe touched many people with his openness and selfless nature, never said a bad word about anybody, and was always there to lend a listening ear.
Baseball was big in the Plummer household, even before Joe was on the scene. Joe played not only on multiple boyhood teams, but he was drafted and played for the Mets for a year. He continued his love of sport playing for the Euphies with his many baseball friends (we'll never forget those Halloween games!) and he loved helping coach his own children's teams.
Since he was a little kid, Joe loved the outdoors. He shared many stories of his camping and road trips with brothers and cousins and made sure to keep those traditions alive with his own family. Any one of Joe's friends knows how much he loved camping and fishing trips. Bridgeport was one of his favorite places ever. He'd always make sure to go out to the meadow and watch the shooting stars. When you look into the night sky and see the moon and stars, like the way he always did, know that he's looking down on all of us with love.
As we begin processing this immense loss, we are comforted to know in our hearts that we are all better people for knowing, loving, and being loved by Joe.
So much love to the Plummer family. I am left with so many great childhood memories. Some of my favorite are simple times just sitting around the kitchen table or sprawled out in the living room listening to Joe tell stories. Some of my favorite are simple times just sitting around the kitchen table or sprawled out in the living room listening to Joe tell stories. He always had us all captivated and cracking up. So many fun summer evenings cooking on the BBQ while playing in the back yard and cul-de-sac. My heart is breaking, what a loss. less

Growing up with him and Bob was always so much fun...the family camping trips every summer, playing baseball at Silverado Park during our summer vacations, etc. Joe was such a kind-hearted soul who always made everyone he met feel special and appreciated. Although his physical presence, his smile and laughter will be greatly missed, his warm-hearted spirit will continue to live on through all of those who's lives he touched. Rest in Peace my brother Joe, until we meet again... 😪 less

I am greatly and sincerely grieved at Joseph's passing. Our family - all of our family - Plummer's, Edmondson's, Kundis's, Anderson's, and all others; Joseph was not only one of my dear cousins, along with his brothers Robert and David, he and his brothers and their families were my best friends as well; when the Kundis family lived on 6521 Espanita St. in Long Beach, CA, I have many fond memories of all of our families (Plummer's, Edmonson's, and Kundis's, gathering for holiday & family celebrations at our home, or Uncle Bob and Aunt Jo's, or Jerry and Margaret's homes...I remember when Joseph's Little League baseball team, the Cubs, came to our house to swim in our pool, and my Father, Robert Francis Kundis, took it upon himself to teach Tony Gwynn (yes, THAT Tony Gwynn, legendary Hall-Of-Fame San Diego baseball player) to swim in our pool. I remember the first time Joseph brought Mary to our house; they were in high-school at St. Anthony's at the time, and she became part of our family...they were not yet married, but I think everyone just knew in their hearts that it would be so. Within that same time frame, Joseph was playing quarterback at St. Anthony's and was excited to show me his football helmet with the new state-of the-art padding technologies of self-enclosed air-foam-water helmet pads. Cousin Dave came over in the afternoons after school and shot hoops with me in our driveway. Our families have always been very close, and important to each one of us. We all had countless adventures together over the years...my Mother Sally, my sister Robin, me, and cousin Dave picking up sister Rosemary in the Greyhound Bus Station in LA in the middle of the night - (bless you, Dave, a bit of a nervous situation, thanks for coming with us); LA Dodgers baseball games with sister Robin and cousins Robert, David and Joseph; they were the first ones to show Robin & I the ribbon tied around the palm tree beyond the bleachers in left field where Willie Stargell's HR hit; visiting sister Rosemary, her husband Gary, and their two daughters Desiree and Kimberly in Las Vegas; racquetball at the Rossmore Racquetball Courts; varying combinations of Joseph, David, family friend Brian (Moe) English and other family members and friends attending music concerts all over Southern CA together. The last time I visited Joseph & Mary was at their home in Puyallup, WA, and, bless their hearts, they took me everywhere and paid for everything. I was originally scheduled to visit Joseph & Mary 2 years ago in Puyallup, but work constraints prevented me...if I knew then how things would go, I would have made the journey...Joseph always had the kindest heart towards everyone he met, and I believe he instilled that attitude with everyone he came in contact with. In my heart, Joseph will forever remain a dearly loved family member, cousin, friend, and loved one; in my opinion, his passing is FAR too premature; I thought we would have many more years to grow old and spend time together, and I am greatly grieved. If I find solace in any of this, I believe the Lord God in Heaven is in charge, and He knows the time of our passing, and He is the Authority of all things... Joseph - I love you, I miss you...Mary, Courtney, Jacob, Sarah, Steven, Bob, Dave, spouses, children and loved ones - my sincerest love, prayers, and all that I have within in me is with you during this time; I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU less

We have fond, although brief memories of Joe from our Panama Cruise last year. We felt so special when he gave us an autographed copy of his book, "Growing Up with Tony Gwynn". He also gave us an additional signed book to give away. Pat especially enjoyed their conversations as they saw each other throughout the cruise. We will pray for your comfort and peace during these difficult days. This picture of Joe and Pat was taken the last night (11-14-19) of that cruise. God Bless you all. Pat & Patti McMahan less
