Schneider's from which he retired as Western Regional Distribution Manager in the late 1990's after more than 30 years of service. His sense of adventure, humor and compassion for people served him well during his years of service to the organization.
John moved his young family several times living in British Columbia and Alberta - eventually settling long term in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. John is predeceased by his wife Joanne and survived by his daughters and their spouses, Kimberly & Mark Thomas and Kari Aletter & Glenn Dallas, his grandchildren Sierra & Ryan, his brother Craig Aletter & Family and loving friends and family across Canada and the United States.
John had a marvelous sense of humor, compassion for people and was known for his ability to tell a story (especially to his children and grandchildren). He loved his life, loved to drive and enjoyed time with his family. His love of cars and driving led him to work with Enterprise Rent-A-Car in his early retirement. He worked with a team moving cars around British Columbia and sometimes to Alberta. It was his passion project after years behind a desk and he loved telling stores about his trips and his new friends!
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations for two organizations that supported John and his family in a meaningful way over the past two years: THE SALVATION ARMY NEW WESTMINSTER BUCHANAN LODGE and/or ROYAL COLUMBIAN HOSPITAL (New Westminster)

We were having some difficulties with getting cooler plus frozen products delivered to rural communities outside of Regina and Saskatoon. After checking how the distribution was done throughout Saskatchewan, we went in front of the regulatory board for that province.
One of the officials said to us “how was your tour of Saskatchewan.?” in a fairly ceremonial tone.
John kept his cool on that remark and continued with a clear representation of the facts and need for better distribution to Saskatchewan customers. We felt it was just as much their right to receive products in good condition as it was for other provinces in Canada.
Following our presentation and the discussion, the authority made the necessary changes — so our trip was successful.
For a number years after, John and I continued to have a little chuckle when we thought about this trip and the question about "how our tour was" for running around Saskatchewan.

My memories go back to my childhood growing up with my cousin Joanne. I stood up for John and Joanne's wedding and that was the first wedding I was a bridesmaid at. Then as years went on we would go to Canada and celebrate the Oktoberfest every year with John and Joanne and as we grew older we went on cruises to Alaska and Hawaii with them. They were always over our house, even visiting up in California a few times. We joined them several times in their different homes for visits and Christmas with the family. Myself and Joe will love and miss my cousins both of them forever less

You had a wicked sense of humor and always a story to tell! I remember the ice rink in the backyard in Waterloo, "killing the monsters" under my bed every Sunday morning, you'd put your hard hat and Schneiders white coat on and off we would go monster hunting. I realized in my early 20's the monster killer was an empty can of Lysol 🤣🤣. You were the cream of the crop in the grandpa department.
You are now reunited with your "Joanie."
Dad, you will forever be remembered and loved by us all đź’žđź’žđź’ž less

Any interest in education or questions about the world were enthusiastically engaged. He delighted in the idea that I wanted to go to University. He never pushed though - he let it be my idea. In my first year I was put on academic probation - going from a small high school to a large university campus was overwhelming. I did well at school without really creating good study habits and it caught up! I wanted to drop out - forget it! The thought of how deeply disappointed Dad would be was far worse. I couldn’t do it - making him proud was so much more important. I kept going and spent the next 25 years seeing the delight in his eyes as I shared my career stories and travel adventures. Delighting him as thanks for being a wonderful parent and supporter was so worth a few years of hard work. Him and Mom were a wonderful team! less
