I first became aware of Jonathan, when as a new meditation practitioner attending Seattle Insight Meditation Society weekly meetings or a weekend retreat with 30-120 people gathered and listening to a talk, when a hiccop might occur with the audio visual equipment, so this quiet, dignified gentleman would arise from his cushion, address both the speaker and the situation, resolve the issue, return to his cushion as though nothing had... see moreI first became aware of Jonathan, when as a new meditation practitioner attending Seattle Insight Meditation Society weekly meetings or a weekend retreat with 30-120 people gathered and listening to a talk, when a hiccop might occur with the audio visual equipment, so this quiet, dignified gentleman would arise from his cushion, address both the speaker and the situation, resolve the issue, return to his cushion as though nothing had just occured and melt back into the crowd. A sort of "who was that masked man" experience.
As his illness began to regulate more of his life he invited other people to learn the skill necessary to record and amplify the talks which became part of the library of talks on the Insight websit. It was during the training I received much more than the instruction and techinical tools. I learned the measure of the man. Jonathan was a master instructor who had the skill and patience to teach we the uninitiated, the expertice necessary to continue the process without interuption.
As a practitioner he was kind, steady, observant, perceptive and articulate in his understanding and his ability to share his experiences and knowledge with others. His gentle and quiet manner, his quick smile and inclusive personality will be greatly missed. Travel well and thank you for being you.
