Judi grew up in Monterey County and developed a life long love of the ocean. She moved to Arkansas for a while and lived in a tent in the Ozark's. Eventually, winter came and she moved into town. She got work at a local tavern and immediately made many friends.
After a fire ruined her apartment, Judi decided to move back to California, settling again on the Monterey Peninsula. It was here that she gave natural birth to Gabriel in April of 1975. As Gabe grew to be school age, Judi discovered Waldorf Education. She decided to become a Waldorf Teacher and taught for over twenty-five years. She was the founding teacher of the Davis Waldorf School and dearly loved working with the children and following her graduates as they moved forward with their schooling and lives.
Upon retiring, not being the type to just sit around, she took up line dancing. She had been a dancer all her life and fit right in the dance community. She gained many friends line dancing and was always willing to help another dancer with steps, etc.
She is survived by Gary (Gabo) her partner of forty-eight years and her son Gabriel.

Judi was a long time member of our line dance community and contributed to everyone's enjoyment with her smiling face and enthusiasm. She achieved one of her goals by helping new dancers learn how to dance and assisting with class needs. We miss her greatly.

She was a founding teacher and graduated the first 8th grade class. My memories of her include countless camping trips, class plays, choir performances and dodge ball. We weren't an easy bunch, especially as we approached our teen years, but she had so much love for us and she will always be remembered. This picture of her at our 7th grade track meet perfectly captures her spirit. Rest in peace Mrs. Mattson. less

My deepest condolences Gabo. I am sorry we did not get the opportunity to meet Judy in person. I’m glad Kristin took these photos the last time her and Gabe saw Judy at your home.

Judy also lived in my neighborhood, so I have fond memories of her walking her beautiful dogs and stopping to chat for a moment. With heartfelt condolences- Stephanie Morris less
