On Sunday, January 24, 2021, Lenore Sobel, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 97.
Lenore was born January 23, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY to Jack and Rose (Seiden) Weinberg. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and attended Brooklyn College. She would later use this education and much more as an office manager and bookkeeper for a detective agency, where she worked for many years. On June 11, 1948, she married Milton Sobel, and together they raised their two children, Ellen and Bruce.
As a young woman, Lenore sang and performed for the local theater and continued her passion for the arts by attending a variety of ballet, theater, and opera performances over the years. She equally enjoyed seeing the latest movie on the silver screen every weekend. Her love for fashion and decorating contributed to her great sense of style. Even as she aged, she was often the best dressed person in the room. Her love for travel took her around the world to such places as Iceland, Italy, Norway, and Sweden, but nothing quite put a smile on her face more than visits with her children, grandchildren, and, eventually, great-grandchildren.
Lenore was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, and parents, Jack and Rose Weinberg. She is survived by her two children, Ellen (Sobel) Fusfeld and Bruce Sobel; grandchildren, Lauren Fusfeld, Carolyn (Fusfeld) Clark, Matthew Sobel, and Scott Sobel; and great- grandchildren, Nathaniel, Paige, Ethan, and Grayson. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Lenore’s favorite charity Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options (JAFCO) may be made at JAFCO.org.
