Memories of Linda Martin
Written by her nephew Patrick Martin
Linda A. Martin was born in San Mateo California on August 9th, 1954. She was the third of five kids and the only daughter of Al and Eileen Martin. Growing up with four brothers in various houses in San Mateo, and a short stint in Oregon, was often exciting and never boring.
Throughout her life, Linda was very close with all of her family, maintaining a close relationship with her siblings and cousins as well as her nieces and nephews who she loved to take out on fun excursions to all kinds of mischievous adventures.
Linda was always passionate about art. She was the first girl in her high school to take a metalworking class so that she could learn to sculpt metal, culminating in her winning awards for her work such as her complete set of patio furniture she made from scratch. In addition Linda and her friends spent time making beautiful pottery and listening to live music at the Fillmore Theatre in San Francisco where she was yelled at by Bill Graham. After high school, Linda attended San Jose State where she majored in art.
When she was 19, Linda joined the US Post Office where she worked for the next 35 years. While working at the post office, Linda met Mark Everett who has been her steadfast companion for the past 30+ years. Linda and Mark were frequent garage sale and thrift store attendees; it was at these sales where Linda accumulated her vast collections of trinkets. Whether it was ceramic animal figurines and Santa's or interesting plants rocks and pieces of wood for her gardens, the back of her car nearly always contained some kind of vintage treasure.
Throughout her life Linda’s favorite place to be was up in the mountains. Every summer she organized giant family and friend camping trips that lasted weeks on end and everyone who ever participated in those trips knows how fun it was to be around when she was there. Slightly closer to home was the cabin in Pioneer where she loved to sunbathe in the summer, take pictures of the red, gold and brown trees in the fall, enjoying the snow in the winter and looking at wildflowers in the spring.
Linda is survived by her boyfriend Mark, her mother Eileen, her 3 brothers Chris, Jim (and his wife Geri Anne), Albert and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Al Martin, and brother, Keith Martin.
Condolences may be sent to the family at 1013 2nd Ave. San Mateo, CA 94401. Celebration of her incredible life will be set at a later date.
