Eleanor Linda Stetson, 77, of 3 Sheridan Square, New York, New York passed away peacefully on Dec. 7, 2020 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in Manhattan after a long battle with cancer. Linda is predeceased by her parents Capt. Thomas H. Stetson, USN (ret.) and Barbara Stetson of Middletown, RI, and brother John Hutchinson Stetson. Linda leaves behind two sisters, Mary Stetson Hebert of Worcester, MA, and Katharine Stetson Lemaire of Woodland, CA. as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Linda was born on Aug. 14, 1943, in Albany, NY and received a bachelor’s degree from the City University of New York. An organized and detail-oriented worker, Linda’s career spanned many interesting fields, including the National Education Association in Washington DC, the Rand Corporation, Women’s Action Alliance, Ms. Magazine, and the New York State Supreme Court. As a friend and family member, she supported people in all aspects of her life.
Linda will be remembered for the light she shone on the world through her selfless kindness, diligence, and thoughtfulness. No one who knew Linda didn’t feel loved and valued by her. Linda enjoyed traveling and was able to travel on a safari in Africa and frequently visited friends and family near and far. After her retirement, Linda was dedicated to staying active, walking between five and seven miles per day for as long as she was able around Greenwich Village. A vibrant and caring soul, Linda will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
