Her Story
Mae Etta McGhee “Cookie” was born on September 16, 1952 in Rossville Tennessee to George and Mary Morton. Sadly, her parents, George and Mary and brothers, H.C., George Jr. “PeeWee” and Larry Morton and sister Bernice Pointer all preceded her in death.
Mae “Cookie” confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Hebrew Baptist Church in Rossville, Tennessee. Later in life she joined Garden of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church.
Mae “Cookie” attended High School in Memphis Tennessee. After moving to Chicago Illinois, she continued High School at South Shore High School and later attended Wilbur Wright Junior College and was very proud of going back to school.
Mae “Cookie” married James Jr. McGhee and had 3 children from this union then later divorced.
Mae “Cookie” worked and retired from doing 40 years at Nestlé Food and 30 years at the United States Post Office.
Mae “Cookie” made her transition on Wednesday March 25, 2020 at 12:45pm.
Mae “Cookie” leaves to cherish her memory 3 children: Rodney (Tanya) Anthony (Andrea) and Kevin (DeShawn) all of Chicago Illinois, 7 grandchildren: Dion, Dijoneé, Roderick, Chinetta, Anthony Jr., Kevin Jr. and Kira Jai, 3 great - grandchildren: Lyla, Amaya and Phoenyx, brothers Ronald Morton of Warner Robins Georgia, William Reed of St. Louis Missouri, Oscar Lee Jones (Alice) John Wesley Jones (Sarah) Walter Jones (Mattie) Napoleon Jones (Jackie) of Memphis. Sister Lula Bolden of Round Lake Illinois, Mae Emma Jones, Florene Lockett (Calvin) Ada Hunt (Calvin) and Carolyn Jones and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
