Dr. Martha Whelan Krampf, 90, died peacefully in her home at 14 Glenwood Avenue, Easton,MD on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. She had been lovingly cared for by her son, Daniel, and supported through Talbot Hospice and Palliative Care.
Born February 24, 1930, in Bradford, PA, she was the daughter of Francis J. and Vivien (Locke) Whelan. She married Harry Maurice (Bud) Krampf, Jr. on April 11, 1953 at St. Bonaventure Church, in Allegany, NY.
Dr. Krampf held a deep commitment and lifelong passion for learning. She received her Nursing Degree (RN) from Canisius College and Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo, NY in 1951. In the 1960’s, she became a Certified School Nurse in Olean, NY, and completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, NY.
She went on to teach Practical Nursing (LPN) at CA.BOCES, Olean, NY and in 1984, she and her husband moved to Tilghman Island when she joined the faculty at MacQueen Gibbs Willis (MGW) School of Nursing, Easton, MD. Her interest in Human Development, and work as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, led her to pursuing her PhD from the University of Maryland, graduating at the age of 63. She maintained a private therapeutic practice, Possibilities, LLC, until 2014.
In addition to her academic and professional pursuits, Martha was an accomplished painter, working with acrylics. She held a deep affection for painting landscapes and still life. Her work was featured in area art shows, at Glenwood Gallerie and online.
Dr. Krampf was predeceased by her husband, Bud, in March, 2010 and her son, Stephen Locke Krampf, in March,1992.
Surviving are her daughter, Gretchen Mary Krampf and her husband, Paul J. King, Orcas Island, WA; her sons, Harry Maurice (Buck) Krampf III and his wife, Connie Li, Raleigh, NC; Peter Francis Krampf and his wife, Dagmar Roth, Berlin, Germany; and Daniel Whelan Krampf, Easton, MD; her four grandchildren; Rian Dameron, Michael Dameron (Leigh), Annie Dameron Pederson (Brian), Marine Krampf, granddaughter-by-marriage, Angela and Annmarie Wang; five great-granddaughters, Samantha and Hadley Crovo (Annie) and Avery, Logan and Mae Dameron (Michael and Leigh); her sister, Marjory Whelan Donovan; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Nan) McMahon, Anita McAuliffe (Mickey) Pugh and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 11:00 AM EDT at St. Joseph’s Mission Church, Cordova, MD, with burial immediately following Mass.
