Myrna Hudson nee Allen, 87, of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Carrier Mills, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 7th in Tallahassee, Florida.
Myrna was born in Carrier Mills, Illinois to Alverna nee Taborn and Esta Allen on January 4, 1934. She would have many successes in her life, starting with winning a beauty contest as an infant. Myrna's childhood, growing up on a farm with seven siblings, was full of fun, adventure, and hard work. She excelled in school, skipped a grade, and graduated at age 17. She met Walter Hudson in 1955 in Chicago, while both worked at a hospital, and married in 1957.
As a stay-at-home mom to two children, Kirk and Karen, Myrna fed curiosities with frequent trips to museums and libraries. Her excellent sportsmanship was evident in her willingness to brave snow and rain on camping trips, face her fear of water in scuba gear, or wait without complaint on the beach while the rest of the family had fun. With Walter, she galavanted around the world, visiting about a dozen countries in her lifetime, and started a successful career in business administration while living in Hawaii. She co-founded the Walmyr Publishing Company in 1991 and served as its executive director until she retired in her eighties.
Myrna was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles, musicals, trying new recipes, and any movie starring Denzel Washington. Her favorite vacations were the ones in which slot machines were plentiful. She was best known for her intellect, laughter, integrity, kindness, and strong opinions.
Myrna is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hudson; parents, Alverna and Esta Allen; brother Coy Allen; and sisters Thelma Allen, Stella Portee, and Marilyn Farrar.
Myrna is survived by her son, Kirk Hudson; daughter, Karen Mayer; granddaughter, Daphne Hudson; grandson, Wyndham Hudson; sister, Sandra Caraveo; brother, Dennis Allen; and brother, Lloyd Allen; as well as five loving sisters-in-law, a wonderful brother-in-law, a gaggle of nieces and nephews, and a granddog.
The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the Alzheimer's Project for their kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Project, 301 E. Tharpe St, Tallahassee, FL 32303 https://www.alzheimersproject.org/.
