Nancy Chubb Obituary
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – On Monday, November 16, 2020, Nancy Lurline (Blackwood) Chubb passed away peacefully at the age of 84 at Heritage Pointe of Huntington in Huntington, Ind.
Nancy was born on May 30, 1936, in Tuppers Plains, Ohio. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Athens, where she would go on to serve as a public school music teacher for more than 40 years. Nancy would later move to western New York, where she continued to teach before retiring in south Florida.
Nancy married fellow educator Robert Lee Burson on August 30, 1958, in Athens, Ohio. They raised two sons, Mark and Scott. Nancy was married to her second husband, Richard Chubb, on December 29, 1990, in Chautauqua, N.Y. During their retirement years, Nancy and Richard were fond of sailing.
Though small in stature, Nancy had a dynamic and infectious personality. Many former students remember her as a skilled, passionate, and caring teacher. One former pupil recalls Nancy as a “tiny mighty mo seated at that giant piano, playing for all she was worth!” Another remembers, “She loved music and her love for music made us all love music too! The class was joyful and fun because that’s how SHE was.”
Nancy was preceded in death by both of her husbands, her father, Homer, her mother, Mildred, and her brother, James Blackwood. She is survived by her younger sister, Lelia (and husband Jimmy), her two biological sons (Mark Burson [wife Marie] and Scott Burson [wife Deb]), three stepsons (Robert, John, and Rick Chubb), and by numerous grandchildren.
