Barbara and Jim, with Joan, tried out the farm life in Jim's childhood home in Malad, Idaho. They lived in a house without plumbing or heating (apart from a coal stove). It didn't last. Before the year was over, Barbara and Joan returned to California. Jim followed a few months later.
