Sadly our friend Richard Barker took his own life on the 1st September 2019. This online memorial site is to enable friends and family from all over the world to be able to share photos, memories and leave tributes to a beloved friend, son, brother and uncle.
Richard, Rich, Barks or Barker was one of the worlds gems being kind, generous, good fun and always enthusiastic. He was a louder than life personality and connected with all people he met from all walks of life. Enjoying sport, music and having a technology minded brain opened his world up to many different avenues and experiences. Living and travelling to a huge range of different countries saw him always on the go and loving life.
Please share your thoughts, memories and stories here as an open memorial that all can visit and reminisce about the good times.
At a later date there will also be service announcements and details for fundraising for charities that were close to Richards heart. Please keep an eye out for these.
Forever missed and forever loved RCBB

Whether I think back at memories from uni or when we both lived in Oz, my 30th, or even last Christmas; Richard was always had time for me and my time spent around him was fun, a little nuts sometimes, but it brought a lot of joy to me.
To Richard. Not a day hasn’t gone by over the past week when I haven’t thought about you man! I never thought for one moment that you wouldn’t be around for the special events in our lives. If it wasn’t for you Bark’s I wouldn’t have had the courage to move to the other side of the world and I wouldn’t have reconnected with the girl of my dreams, who is now the love of my life! I wish I could have done more, I wish we’d talked more often as of late, but I now hope more than anything that you’ve found peace.
You will be greatly missed Rich and my thoughts will always be to friends and of course Richard’s family
“This is not goodbye forever, but goodbye for now”

Richie Boy it was such a pleasure to be your "Marma" or your Aussie Mum. Your vivacious character brought joy and charism into our home and our family. You will be missed but never forgotten, our memories of you will bring us peace xoxox

I first met you on the Goldie after your travels, when you and fee decided to make a life for yourself here. You were a smart, energetic, and an exuberant human who had the ability to lift up anyone’s spirits. The first time I met you was out at Mermaid Tavern where we danced up a storm and you convinced us to take a dip in the ocean at midnight. Without hesitation you threw this stranger over your shoulder and charge at the waves.
You had grand plans for your life but you were bigger than this earth had to offer. I hope you find peace up there Rich. less
Rest in peace, Rich. I hadn't seen you for a long time but I was so sad to hear this news. You were such a lovely person. Thoughts are with you, your family and those close at this very difficult time.
Rich; we grew up together in alway and school house! You were one of the nicest, skilful and intelligent guys in the year!
I was pleased to see you in the summer and reminisce over old times!

How you would party through term, live life to the full and then study for a week and come out with top marks was incredibly frustrating for everyone else but just showed what a talented and personable person you were. You were good at sport, music and confident in any situation. only you know the troubles you were hiding but I hope you know the memories people hold of you, will live forever.
We’ve lived our own lives since those uni days, both went abroad in separate directions and naturally life got in the way from keeping in touch in recent years but not a day has gone by since I heard that I haven't thought of you.
My thoughts are with you and your family mate. Stay strong through these devastating times and cherish the fact that Rich touched a lot of peoples lives in a tremendous way, albeit in a far too short amount of time.
Here’s a flashback to us celebrating avoiding the drop! RIP Barks. less

There’s nobody on this planet I’ve shared so many good times with as you so there’s no way I could pick only 1 photo to sum it up with. Looking through them, every picture has its own story and memory, if only you were here to tell them.
We met in a hostel in Miami, you booked us a cruise through the Bahamas the first day I met you, you changed your travel plans to come live in whistler, you even moved to the Southern Hemisphere. Through it all we made hundreds of friends together and now here we are trying to be adults 10 years on.
So many emotions Barker, it wasn’t suppose to play out like this. I’m angry, disappointed sad and mostly sorry for not being there. Life will go on and the world will never be the same without you but trust me it’s a better place because of you. You’ve had more positive impacts on people than you’ll ever realise and were always the star of the show. Love always. Your bro, Sam. — with Richard Barker. less

A great memory i have of us was when the 2 of us decided to go to a Gold Coast Suns AFL game one Saturday night. Afterwards we ended up in Surfers Paradise where i proceeded to buy 3 lifetime memberships to players strip club for us and a friend of yours i had never met before. I only have 1 card remaining as i'm pretty sure you and Tris went out 1 weekend and apparently losing them.
I have never met somebody so musically talented and knowledgeable. You spent countless evenings on your laptop managing and starting your successful Timeless Car Cleaning business. I remember you would often take 10 minute breaks to watch funny cat Videos on YouTube.
My last message to you read "I may have to come for a trip to the UK next year". Well Rich, I have now been to England and caught up with a few of your friends and Family over the past week and saw the beautiful country you called home, I just wish you could've been the one showing me around as i know it would've been wild.
In my eyes you will be forever 31, RIP Richie Boy. less

A great man who was so intelligent, witty and adventurous. He didn't fear anything, living all over the world and just loving life. RIP my friend, I love and miss you very much.

I’ll never forget your generosity when I came out and stayed with you on the Gold Coast, I was so proud of what’s you had achieved over there, but not surprised as you are super talented. we had some amazing nights, perhaps the best was going for cocktails up the tower and ending up being chucked out of a strip club, not through our faults may I add ;) I’ll miss you mate, you are a true gent and brilliant person x less

I feel so priveleged to have met you at uni, to push me to do things I didnt have the confidence to do. Our 2 years living together in Bosanquet Close were unforgettable! We didnt see each other much after that as life took us to different parts of the world, but we always kept in touch and I saw you doing amazing things. Everytime we did meet up it was just like old times, which usually included a jager bomb or 5! I struggled to pick 1 moment but the lads holiday to Kavos was as messy as it was memorable, and it was absolutely you in your element. Words cant describe how much I miss you mate, but I will do you proud, thats a promise. less

We are asking friends to write letters to Richard that can go with him from the service. There will be a basket at the entrance to the crematorium to collect these and then they will be placed on the coffin.
Please write a second copy that can then be put in the condolence book so mum and I (and others) can read and reflect in our own time.
Please share with anyone who you feel may wish to do one.

You kindly escorted me around a theme park while I visited Oz. As we entered, we took a selfie to celebrate. Little did we know, we'd captured a very unfortunately timed snap of a girl adjusting her (clearly) awkward choice of lower garment. A timeless moment...
RIP, Richard. I'm sure we'll catch up again sometime. less
