We created a GatheringUs memorial to celebrate the life of Robert Jon Lewis. Collecting your stories and memories here will offer us great comfort. As we plan virtual and in person gatherings, we will share details here. Thank you for contributing to this lasting memorial.

And you have to say both names, not just the first or last but both. I have known Robbie for close to 20 years. We hung out in the same group of friends back then, lost touch for a little bit because life tends to do that to you, and then reunited once he started working at Patterson. I remember that day so clearly. I was coming back to work from lunch, not really paying attention to anything, had that glazed 'after lunch' look to me, and then I heard him laugh as he was being accompanied out the door from what I assume was his final interview. It was one of those moments where the daze was suddenly gone, my head popped up and right as we were walking passed each other we looked over and made eye contact. It was a delayed reaction from both of us and as we kept walking in the opposite direction of each other, we both turned around with the quick head jerk of realizing who we had just seen and did the 'Hey!' that says 'OMG! That's you! How's it going?! I can't believe I just ran into you! What've you been doing?!' Who knew one word could say so many things?! Who knew that your hearing, sight and vocals could burn a moment forever in your memory? We say 'Hey' to people everyday, but it's the emotion in the voices, the light up of eyes and the smile on faces that makes that 'Hey' mean something. Robbie Lewis had all of that. He had the great smile that we will all miss. He had the laughter that was so contagious that he couldn't laugh alone. And he had the emotion that made it worth looking him in the eyes when you talked to him. These are all going to be so missed by so many people. The PTC will never be the same. No one that knew Robbie will every be the same.
I was trying to think of the stories that I could tell you all from our 'younger' years and there are two that stand out to me. Both involve jeep runs : ) For anyone who has not been on a jeep run, the first thing to know is that you block off your entire day. Depending on how the run goes, you may or may not need that entire day - typically, we did! This was a day that we needed the entire day : ) Forgive me for any missing details, it's a bit fuzzy to me, but for some reason on this particular summer day, we somehow ended up losing the group and it was just us and 2 other jeeps. We didn't really know the people in the other jeeps, we knew of them, but didn't KNOW them. So anyway, the 4 of us are out of the jeep trying to get some of the sweat on our clothes to try and end up sitting down in the driveway of this house that we stopped at. Not even realizing that Robbie had gotten up and left our little circle, he comes back with a plate full of microwaved pizza rolls. And I mean this was the whole bag of pizza rolls, not just a box of them. Naturally, we grabbed them by the handfuls and were eating them like we had been starved for weeks. As we got down to the bottom of the plate and our senses were coming back to us, I said 'OMG these are the best pizza rolls ever! You know these guys? Whose house is this anyway?' (remembering that we didn't know who we were with very well) Robbie says 'I don't know. I just went inside, found the kitchen and made these.' The 4 of us were CRACKING up!! But that's Robbie Lewis for ya! Easy going. Fun to be with no matter what you're doing and just able to let loose and have a great time! We left very soon after that needless to say : )
The other memory that stands out to me was another jeep run day - again, you plan for your entire day to be consumed. He was the one dude in the jeep with 3 girls and he just fit with us like a glove. He was singing Enrique' Iglesias Escape. High notes and all! It was so great! He even stood up holding onto the roll bar so he could give us a real concert! We had so much fun that afternoon! So this was definitely a jeep run that was going to take the entire day, but I remember us getting close to where Miss McKenzie was staying. She was probably 3 years old around this time - definitely toddler stage I remember - and he said 'you know what, drop me off cause I'm gonna stay home tonight with McKenzie.' At first we were all saying 'What?! You've already got a babysitter for the night! Stay out with us!' But he was firm on it and said no. We didn't give him a lot of grief over it, but the thing that stands out to me today and stood out to me that day, was that he was devoted to his child. I wasn't a parent then, but I am now, and I understand. He knew that he needed to be home more with her that weekend and just said hey since we're here, drop me off so I can be with my girl. The way he loved that little girl, and now Braxton too, was nothing short of being awe struck. So we dropped Enrique off and into the house he went to be with his baby. I'm glad that I was there for that moment. You never know what memories are going to stick with you and which ones aren't, but I do know that the ones that stay with me are made by the most meaningful, genuine people. And Robbie Lewis was definitely that and so much more.
Robbie Lewis, my Dear old friend, I was the lucky one to have been able to know you for the years that I have. I was the lucky one that happened to work at the same place where you came seeking work. Patterson was the lucky one when you stepped inside our doors. You were so many things to so many people that this hardly seems to matter, but they definitely picked the right person for the job when they chose you.
We all will miss your smile, your contagious laugh, your genuine style and fun, outgoing personality. But most of all, we'll just miss you.
Sleep easy now, my friend. I pray that you now are resting peacefully. And I pray....
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
Until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand. less

A favorite memory of mine was the fun natured jabs we gave each other during our popcorn rotations. I would give him a hard time about the music he had playing outside his office, so he’d turn it up and then I’d change stations when he’d leave to go take care of something in the building. He’d tell me my popcorn was too buttery, yet he always snuck a bag when I wasn’t looking. It was always a good time with Rob. He will truly be missed by all! less
