Ronald Cameron Ryan, loving husband, brother, and friend passed away December 11, 2020 in Bend, Oregon. He courageously beat all odds in the lifespan he was initially given with his terminal cancer diagnosis. Ron was born January 7th, 1967 in Hamilton, Ontario to John and Carol Ryan and was the youngest of four boys. He and his three brothers Allan, Brad, and Glenn enjoyed growing up on the Niagara escarpment with endless hiking trails, tobogganing routes, and swims in Lake Ontario. On April 29th, 1989 Ron married his wife, Jacqueline Lee Bottcher, and shared a loving and beautiful marriage for 31 years.
Ron received his B.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry from Guelph University in 1990 and enjoyed a 25 year career in the craft brewing industry as a brewmaster and technical sales consultant for breweries across Canada and the US. As a professional beer judge for 17 years and frequent conference speaker and instructor in Brewing Science, Ron was well respected for his technical and analytical skills. In 2000 Ron took to the skies and earned his private pilot’s license and joined his father in-law and wife in a family of pilots who enjoyed the love of flying.
Ron had a passion for woodworking and home renovations. He combined these two passions to create beautiful homes for family and friends to gather with him and his wife in Elora Ontario, Portland Oregon, San Jose California, Hood River Oregon, and Bend Oregon. Having lived in a number of cities, Ron was blessed with many wonderful and enduring friendships. His dry wit, sense of humor, uplifting faith, and loving heart was infectious to everyone around him. As an avid mountain biker, snowboarder, and love of the outdoors, Ron lived life to the fullest enjoying the beauty of the world that we live in.
