On Friday, October 23rd, 2020, Rosalie Williams (Rose), passed away at age 99. Rose was born on December 22, 1921. She raised two daughters, Alberta and Thelma.
Rose was raised in an orphanage until the age of 5. She was a faithful woman of God who loved being surrounded by family especially her children and grandchildren. During her early 30s she worked for the Fisher Family and helped raise a young man by the name of Colin Fisher from age 5. She and Colin would maintain a very close relationship until her death. Throughout her life she sacrificed all she could for her family. She loved family gatherings and celebrations and was always center stage with her uniquely twisted sense of humor. For over 30 years Rose’s home at 8447 S. Crandon, Chicago, IL was the central gathering place for family and friends for holidays. Of particular note were her Easter baskets that were carefully crafted and customized for each grandchild and made of repurposed paper egg cartons. During the Christmas holiday every grandchild was guaranteed to find a gift under Rose's Christmas tree. Part of Rose's Christmas decor included small decorative glass bowls situated throughout her home and filled with uncracked walnuts and Christmas candy. Rose was a woman of great strength and resilience and survived several life threatening events including tuberculosis, house fire and drive by shooting. Her fried chicken and homemade bread was a family favorite. She loved her profession as an educator and would frequently stress the importance of education to her children and grandchildren. Rose was the family matriarch and perpetual link that kept her family together.
Rose was preceded in death by her father, her mother Mary Francis, daughter Alberta Francis Conley and uncle Henry Caleb. She is survived by her daughter Thelma and many relatives.
