On Monday, December 14, 2020, Ruth Gittings, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at the age of 100.
Ruth was born on July 11, 1920, in El Paso Texas to John and Helen (Ribbel) Pullman, Her father Major John Pullman served in the Army, and her mother was a school teacher. Ruth had four sisters and one brother. Ruthie as she was affectionately called was the fifth child. Losing their father when Ruth was eight years old was very difficult. She and her siblings had to work at an early age to help their mother.
She graduated from Julian Union High School and attended secretarial college in Oceanside, CA. She worked for Douglass Aircraft as a secretary during the WWll war effort and later worked for Pacific Bell phone Company.
Ruth had two children she cherished dearly, Bob and Jenny.
While working as a secretary for the La Jolla Fisheries Oceanography Center, she met the love of her life, Dan Gittings. They lived in their beloved Solana Beach, CA home for the majority of their lives together. Their entire neighborhood loved receiving their amazing garden produce and every passing dog would stop and wait for Dan to give them a cookie. They were happily married for 42 years before his death in 2010.
Ruth was a true believer in Jesus as her Savior and Lord. She loved her family with all of her heart. You could find her on her knees every morning and evening before bed praying for her family, and friends, and reading her Bible. Even at the end of her life with dementia, she could still say verses of the 23rd Psalm. She loved singing and during the last few years of her life, her caregivers nicknamed her “Sunshine”.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Gittings, her sisters, Helen, Gertrude, Janie, Ethel, and brother John and one grandson Christopher
She is survived by her loving children, Bob and Jenny, her six grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
