"I love laughter. It's happiness out loud!" - Ruthe B. Gluckson
Daughter of Sarah (Winkovski/Winslow) and Jack (Federbusch) Busch, Ruthe's parents came over in the early 1900s from the Ukraine/Austria/Poland area.
Ruthe lived most of her youth and young adulthood in Los Angeles. Mother of Robert (b. 12/11/52), Jeffrey (b. 12/14/54) and Kory (b. 5/17/57). In L.A. she was active with the Institute of Group Psychotherapy as well as being a teacher of Gestalt Encounter techniques and "Constructive Aggression" (precursor to "Assertiveness Training"). Active in the field of Dance Therapy, she co-authored/edited several books with her mentor Anne Lief Barlin. She also was an accomplished tennis player, and sold World Book encyclopedias door-to-door. She spent years as a substitute teacher, covering all subjects and all grades from preschool to adult.
Since 1972, Ruthe was a resident of Laguna Beach, where she taught: Swimming, Yoga, Writing, Psychology, and Laughter Yoga. She developed an entire curriculum around "Movement for Limited Movers" (seniors, injured, etc.) which she shared at almost all of the community colleges of Orange County, California. She taught extensively through the City of Laguna Beach and was active at the Susi Q Senior Center.
Ruthe fought Kidney Cancer for over 17 years. She had good results with medical marijuana/cannabis therapy and became a staunch advocate for therapeutic cannabis. A spreading of the disease identified in 2019 led to her passingin 2020.
Ruthe was a champion of Laughter Yoga since 2005. At the daily meetings of the Laguna Laughter Club she would often go out of her way to invite curious passersby to participate in the joyful sessions. Those who did so often remarked at how remarkably "welcome" they felt.
Ruthe was truly a light unto the world, and all who were graced with meeting her can't help but carry on her message of light and joy.
