We would like everyone to participate in this Celebration of Life for our Mother, Sister, Grandma, Great-Grandma (GrannyMa), Aunt, and Friend. Please prepare to share a short memory, poem, or verse. We would also like to end the ceremony with a toast to her life, have something to toast with. No dress code but it would be nice to wear many different colors as opposed to black, as we are celebrating her life, and it's what she would like.
We created a GatheringUs memorial to celebrate the life of Sylvia A Harris . Collecting your stories and memories here will offer us great comfort. As we plan virtual gatherings, we will post invites. Thank you for contributing to this lasting memorial.

Raised by many including her loving father Ezrick Lewis, and her aunties Leonora Haughton and Flora Leath. She was the oldest of seven, known as Big Sister, Peaches, Cousin, Mommy, Aunt Sylvia, Grandma, and GrannyMa.
A life-long New Yorker, Sylvia lived a rich life and was passionate about the arts, and clearly passed that down to her daughters. She was the sweetest and expressed love as she danced ballet, figure skated, and painted beautiful pieces as a lifelong visual artist. An international traveler, she visited places like Rome, Rio, Italy, Spain, England and many Carribean Islands. Her passion and care of others extended throughout her work as she served NYS in the Department of Social Work as a Supervisor. Known to attend Broadway shows, strolls in Central Park, visiting the many museums and all around painting New York City red, she also enjoyed a nice evening in her NYC apartment watching game-shows or playing cards. Sylvia loved laughing, and spending time with her family and friends, a trait that has illuminated all of our lives. She moved to Lusby, Maryland in 2015 where she enjoyed her final years traveling, reading, watching her favorite shows, enjoying game nights (sometimes an all day event) with her family, and relaxing on the beach watching the waves.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her friend and father of two lovely daughters, Leon Harris, and her brother, Curtis Lewis. She is survived by her daughters Rashida (Thomas), Taifa (Paul); 11 grandchildren, Isaiah, CarrieOlivia, Esiah (Joy), Elisha, Richard III, Issac (Aniya), Zion, Allayah, Keala, Reyna, and Khalil; 3 great-grandchildren Jacob, Hassan and Timothy; siblings Christine, Ade, Carleton, Coni, and Evred; brother-in-law Jim, sisters in-law, Mengewe, Donna, Debbie, Robbin, Karen, Babbette, Delcinia; and son in-love Derek. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered as well by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and many other loved ones.
