TAO SONG, age 58 of Hudson, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Min Zhong, adored father of Anne Song and Andrew Song, cherished son of Ruoxian Song and Rongshi Li, dear brother of Xin Song, admired uncle of Chun Tao, Lucy Ding, and Eddie Ding, and respected friend of many.
A dedicated scholar, Tao was a graduate of Beihang University (previously, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) where he studied aerospace engineering. He then completed his doctoral studies in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) and subsequently built his career as a mechanical engineer, working for over 24 years at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He was a brilliant and avid inventor, holding several patents on tire acoustics, technology, and performance.
Tao was also a talented athlete, growing up playing soccer and basketball with his childhood friends. He continued his athletic endeavors at the collegiate level as a track and field athlete, where he competed primarily in shot put and triple jump for Beihang University. He later shared his love of sports with his children, who will forever cherish the time they shared playing with him and continue to honor him by playing with the same joyful enthusiasm and competitive spirit that always shaped his time on the fields and courts.
Above all else, Tao was devoted to his family. He especially loved being a supportive father to his two children, Anne and Andrew. Over the past 30 years, he was most commonly spotted at their various soccer games, basketball games, track and field meets, band concerts, orchestra concerts, school plays, graduations, and any other opportunity where he could cheer them on and also capture the event with his trusty Canon camera. He was a gifted photographer, and his family will continue to cherish these lasting moments and memories.
