Theodore Mark Holland was named after his late uncles Theodore Winchester Holland of Lewes, Delaware, and Theodore Winchester Holland of Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Born April 13, 1957 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, he was the sixth child of seven children born to his late parents, father, Walter Weldon Holland Sr., and mother Martha Ellen (Martin) Holland. He was affectionately known to family and friends as “Teddy”. His parents gave Teddy an unshakeable foundation of faith in the Most High God. He joined Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, Devon, Pennsylvania as a youth.
Teddy spent his years as a youth, growing up in the quaint community of Devon, Pennsylvania. It was this close-knit community where he developed a zest for life that would help him discover a passionate love for many kinds of sports and issues of justice and equality. He enjoyed reflecting on his brief experience as a Cub Scout. Teddy excelled in intramural sports. Whether playing Pee Wee football for the Strafford Eagles, playing baseball in the Tea Garden Little League or competing as star high school varsity athlete on Conestoga High School football, basketball and baseball teams. His achievement in football and academic excellence, led Teddy to receive a football scholarship to attend the University of Delaware. He followed up his college education at Villanova University, majoring in Marketing. During his time at Conestoga High School, Teddy was a member of the Student Council, Black Student Union and the first Black Homecoming King. He remained engaged with his online Conestoga Alumni Group. Teddy contributed to the Holland Family football legacy by being inducted into the prestigious Main Line Gridiron Club along with his father and brothers.
Teddy dedicated over 30 years to a career in the telecommunications industry. He spent 23 of those years with Hewlett-Packard as Business Programs Area Manager and Regional Sales Director. Teddy retired from the industry in 2019 as a Director of Strategic Accounts for the ProcessMap Corporation and periodically continued as a consultant to various other Telecommunications companies.
Teddy is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Renee Cook Holland; his beloved 2 children from his union with the late Glenda Biggers-Holland: Justin T. Holland and Vanessa L.Holland; his sisters Beverly S. Holland-Jackson, Donna L. Holland (Easley Wallace), Seatta Jane Tessema (Meteku Tessema), and brother Brian E. Holland (Yolonda); Five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Holland Jr., and Duane L. Holland Sr.
Teddy had great passion and appreciation for life. He always pursued the best of life for himself, family and friends. He had a limitless love and loyalty and devotion to his family and friends. This was evident in what he did on his free time. He coached youth football, and served as a mentor to many in sports, business, career, and faith. Teddy also loved many forms of art and music. He was passionate about exploring new cooking ideas. Anyone who knew Teddy, knew he was not hesitant to share his opinions on issues of injustice and inequality. He was well known for expressing his “Teddy-isms” on Facebook. His thoughtful insights and excellent writing skills recently earned him recognition and publication in a Virgin Islands newspaper. His poem titled, “There Was Plenty of Time” was read aloud at a Black Lives Matter racial injustice rally in 2020. Teddy will always be remembered for his way with words, often colorful, but always forthright and truthful. He had the ability to capture the attention of any room with his wit, words and wisdom. Teddy was a man with great pride, but even greater was his faith in the Lord. With his strength and passions, Teddy remained a loving husband, devoted father, loving brother, adoring grandfather, and a true friend to us all. Teddy will forever be in our hearts and memories. He has found his eternal peace with the Most High God.
