A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin,
Until the day comes we're together again.
Tina Louise Roberts
Tina Louise Roberts was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 5, 1959, the third and youngest child of Jimmie (deceased) and Lillie Mae Roberts (nee Hamlett).
Tina graduated from St. Matthew’s Elementary School, where even before entering first grade Father Crowley recognized her joyfulness and grace. He invited Tina and her mother to the rectory for tea. Whenever she passed or mentioned her dear St. Angela Hall Academy High School, Tina would begin to sing her alma mater’s school song.
Tina’s career in nursing reflected her compassionate personality. She graduated from Manhattan Community College with an associate degree in Applied Science/RN and went on to earn her B.S. in Health Administration and B.S.N. in Registered Nursing.
Tina’s first position as a Registered Nurse, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn, both began her career and brought her a close extended family. She participated in the bowling league and other extracurricular activities and remained there from 1985 until, sadly, the hospital closed in 2005. Tina went on to work as a Care Coordinator for the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, and later Anthem Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield. She always worked countless hours to make sure, “her people,” received the proper care. Tina also became a devoted caregiver for her Mom.
On September 25, 1985, Tina married Larry Tyrone Timmons and they were blessed with a son, Ernest Scott Timmons, on January 16th, 1986.
Tina adored, “Her Ern,” and was always in his corner, guiding him lovingly as he grew up. She helped to identify and support him through his battles with Crohn’s Disease and was proud of his efforts on behalf of the Crohn’s Awareness Global Engine. Tina was also proud of his photographic artistry, his business, POLM Photography, and all of his other endeavors.
Tina’s compassion was not limited to family, friends, and patients. Since 2004, she helped support a young girl, Liana, in Madagascar.
Wherever Tina was, there was bound to be friends and fun. Tina loved to dance. Whether it was Salsa or the Hustle, she showed style and grace on the dance floor. Her backyard oasis was the scene of many festive events, packed with family, friends, and food. Tina loved bike rides, hula hoop, jump rope, Betty Boop, and eating healthy. She even asked the owner of Tom’s Restaurant if she could bring her own turkey bacon to go with breakfast before they offered it. Soon, it was on the menu.
Whatever the situation, Tina could find the positive. She showed grace in what she did, and who she was. And grace will lead her home to be with her sister Patricia, and her brother Steven.
Tina Louise Roberts leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Ernest Scott Timmons, her mother, Lillie Mae Roberts. Her brother, Lenwood Roberts. Her adoring niece Tamara Lee Lancaster. Her aunt and uncle, Pat and Al Taylor. Her Goddaughters Nikeema Green and Tonya Ellington. Her Godson Calvin Pinckney. Linda and Jessica Lowman, who were like daughters to her. The friends who were like family—the “Golden Girls,” Pearl Mechan, Juanita Hunter and Tina Johnson, loving cousins, aunts and uncles, and a host of friends.
