Valerie Lynn Rodriguez died far too early, at the age of 64, on May 23rd, 2020. She grew up in New York, but also spent time Puerto Rico. Along with her siblings Melanie and Benjamin (Rennie), Valerie had an adventurous life with her unique father, Benjamin Rodriguez. She loved him dearly. She attended Dean College in Massachusetts, eventually returning to New York to pursue a career as a paralegal helping to litigate medical malpractice cases. She moved to Florida to be closer to family in the early ‘00s. She had just retired weeks before she passed away.
Valerie was a passionate and vocal Democrat, she volunteered for social justice movements and reform, and she very much wanted to see a more just and equitable world. She is survived by her children, Stephenie Landry and Justin Roman, as well as her grandson Silas Landry-Billings. She is also survived by her siblings, Melanie Rodriguez, Benjamin Rodriguez, Stacy Aviles, Jose Aviles, and Alexa Aviles. She loved and (was loved by) her nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Isabel and Benjamin. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a promising political candidate who is committed to social justice.
