Vicki lived a long, happy life full of adventure and died peacefully at age 71 with her children by her side.
She had an accomplished career in the Civil Service, lived abroad for most of her life in Germany and Japan, earned her PhD when her kids were in high school, and traveled the globe, visiting all 7 continents. There are so many accomplishments to note and stories to tell, but what she will be most remembered for is how much she loved us and how much joy and wonder she brought into our lives.
She was always up for an adventure, large or small, and her silly sense of humor made even the most mundane things fun and memorable. She was curious and courageous and went on many trips alone where she always met kind and helpful strangers who enriched her journeys. Every new person she met was a friend and you couldn’t help but like her immediately. Cheering people on and helping them achieve their hopes and dreams were her life’s work. She truly made you feel as if you could accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Above all, she deeply loved her family. She always stayed connected no matter where we all were. No distance was too far or time too short for a visit and her favorite thing was to go on vacations with us. She loved who we loved, and all in-laws were family to her as if they were her blood. Her children were the joy of her life.
Her positive attitude was unflappable even after her ALS diagnosis and she never gave up hope for a miracle.
Vicki is preceded in death by her husband Herbert Braun. She is survived by daughter Anna Rice and husband Jason; son Carl Braun and wife Hedy; mother Anna Dewberry; brother David Campbell and wife Sue; sister Penny Conroy and husband Frank; and her little dog Sammie who was her best friend.
Memorial gifts may be made to the ALS Association.
